Parent Engagement

Dear Parents and Friends,

Parent Engagement

Thank you to those parents and grandparents who were able to attend our Learning Expo this week. Students were very excited to share some of their work and have special visitors in classrooms. It was great to see so many visitors in school and we appreciate the time you took to view a range of student work.

Climate Survey Feedback Term 1 2022

Overall Summary

The purpose of this short survey was to understand what the general level of satisfaction within the School Community currently is (as of the end of term 1 /2022) What we are doing well, and where we can improve.

The survey is a general check-in as to what the overall feeling is around the school.

If you don’t feel your view has been represented, I strongly urge you to participate in the next one. It is only 4 questions and takes around 10 mins.

Results

Overall we had around 27% of the school community participate.  This is only 17 surveys, which is down from 24 surveys completed last round. With this relatively low number, we can really only get an indication of the general sentiment - the raw data isn’t statistically significant to be extrapolated to the whole school.

Based on those that took the survey:

  • 94% (47/47) were either satisfied or extremely satisfied with the school in general.
  • 4% (1 survey) was somewhat dissatisfied.

The good news in these results is that in the last survey we had 25% of people who were on the fence -neither satisfied nor dissatisfied, these have all shifted to being satisfied - so its good to see that there has been an improvement here - a result of focusing on the areas for improvement over the term.

Q2: What do you believe is working well?

Of those who responded below is the range of responses. For the purpose of understanding the key themes, they have been grouped based on similarities.

Q3: How can we improve / what can we start doing?

This is just an indication of the spread of responses amongst 17 families that participated. Overall the key areas around communication, learning and development and community engagement remain consistent.

Communication has been a strong improvement with 6 surveys asking for an improvement in this area and 2 respondents asking for it in this round.

Q4: What do you hold as most important as part of our school community?

The answers to this question get to the heart of what makes us unique – our values

Fostering these values will help build a positive school culture and become the reasons why St Joseph is the first choice for future families.

I think the key message here is that everyone in the school has an opportunity to contribute to these values.  The benefit of this approach is that culture can remain consistent - regardless of changes in staffing and parent communities.
