Respect, Responsibility & Resilience

What's happening in our school?

Students have been enjoying the return of our Lunch Club activities this term. Both juniors and senior students have been bringing themselves to the library at lunch time to do some Just Dancing, Cosmic Yoga and enjoying exploring different quiet time activities on offer. Recently the school purchased some themed sensory play dough kits and these have proven popular amongst students of all ages.

Lunch Club activities provide a quiet and safe space for our students when outside play becomes too overwhelming, too loud or when students simply want to find a calm space to engage and interact with their peers.

                                     Respectful Relationships

Our school is committed to delivering  the Resilience, Rights & Respectful Relationships curriculum. Respectful Relationships is an initiative to promote respect and equality. It also supports educators to teach our children how to build healthy relationships, resilience and confidence.

This week Mrs Everett's 2/3E class have been working on Problem Solving. It is important to help students learn a range of problem-solving skills so they are able to cope with the challenges they face in the future.

Students were engaged in group knot tying challenges that helped them to:

-identify communication skills that enhanced the relationship of the group

-describe cooperative behaviour

-contribute to and predict consequences of group decisions

Afterwards, students reflected on the following:

What sort of behaviours helped the group to solve the problem?

How and when do we use these skills in the classroom to make it a friendly and effective learning place for everyone?

What sorts of things slowed the group down in solving their problem?

What strengths do we call on to work effectively in that game?

What messages can you see in this game that are relevant to us as we work on solving our problems in our everyday lives?
