GRADE 1-2 UPDATE

Hello Grade 1 and 2 Community,

This week in Reading the students continued to hunt for facts when reading non-fictional texts. Reading and navigating texts about owls and bats were the favoured investigations. For phonics, we focused on five sounds. The /oi/ (coin) and /ou/ (cloud) sounds were particularly entertaining for students to say and read.

In Writing, the students practiced their teamwork skills when researching and recording factual information about animals. Each student then created an animal fact book showcasing their understanding of facts related to the groups animal.

Math's this week saw the students begin to study mass. The students played with the pan and digital scales, weighing objects found within the classroom. The game this week was ‘Toss Up’, which involved students adding cards up until they got to 100. It was great to see students experimenting with problem solving strategies when adding up.

Upcoming events/reminders:

  • We once again want to thank all our families for their support in ensuring reading is practiced nightly.
  • All library books will need to be returned by next Wednesday (22/06/22) in preparation for the school holidays.

Have a lovely weekend,

Lauren & Demy
