GRADE 5-6 UPDATE

Hello 5/6 families,

We've been super busy this week in the 5/6 area! Here's what we've been up to:

In writing, we have continued with our simple, compound and complex sentences focus. Students had to include different sentences in their 10 minute challenge and use complex sentences to describe different prompts. We are so close to finishing our Famous Australian Immigrant Project. We can't wait to hear them presented to the class next week and for parents to be able to view their child's project at Interviews next week.

Our reading sessions focused on retelling the main ideas in non fiction texts and connecting the supporting details to text structures. It seems like a lot, and it was, but the kids have done a super job at understanding these concepts. We have learnt about The Poison Dart Frog, Cane Toads, Platypuses, Tasmanian Devil and more.

Maths this week has been all about 'Time!' We have recapped on what we know already and how time can be measured using different units of time. We converted hours to days, minutes to hours etc. We have also looked at the analogue clock, where students had to draw different times

Next Term on Wednesday August 3rd, Students will be participating in an exciting excursion to Scienceworks in Melbourne! Permission slips will be sent out after the holidays but we wanted to make you aware of the date and price. The cost of the excursion will be $35 per student. This includes bus, entry and access to two guided sessions.

Sending kind thoughts to Rachel as she has been cooped up in bed all week. Looking forward to having her back mid next week!
