Educationally Rich Mathematical Games

Teacher professional learning provides opportunities to examine and implement evidence-based teaching strategies that promote deep learning for all students and maximise learning outcomes.

This term, a group of teaching staff participated in a mathematics professional learning seminar on Educationally Rich Mathematical Games led by Dr. James Russo from Monash University. Teachers researched the five principles of an educationally rich mathematical game and how it can be transformed into a rich mathematical investigation.

What a wonderful group of dedicated teachers we have here at St James!

Maths Family Morning - Friday, 19th August

(COVID dependent)

Come grab a coffee, learn how maths is taught at St James, and learn some new mathematical games fit for the whole family. A special thanks to Michelle. T (Ava 3/4CC and Noah 2E) for organising a coffee cart for the morning - it is greatly appreciated!

Reminder - we ask all families to complete our Operoo request to assist with our organisation of the day. Thank you.

Australian Mathematics Competition

We wish our Year 3-6 students the best of luck as they participate in the 2022 Australian Mathematics Competition (AMC) this week. The AMC is one of Australia’s largest school-based mathematics competitions. It features unique problems designed by Australia’s leading educators and academics to demonstrate the importance and relevance of mathematics in students’ everyday lives.

Only students that have accepted the Operoo request will participate in the competition.

Maths Game of the Week - 99 or Bust!

This week’s game is developed by Dr. Paul Swan, an inspirational mathematics consultant, who primarily works with teachers and school leaders to improve the teaching of mathematics in primary schools.
