Room 23

This Term, Room 23 have been learning about refugees and their long journey to freedom. Students used the Six Thinking Hats to investigate this issue from a variety of perspectives. We also used the iPads to brainstorm our ideas using ‘Shout It Out’. Everyone enjoyed seeing their responses appear on the Interactive Whiteboard. Refugees often have to use whatever they can find to make shoes. Using a selection of materials, we tested them to see which would be suitable for making shoes. We are all looking forward to making our shoes and sharing our ideas and final products.

We have also been learning about comics. We used ‘Storyboard That’ to create our own comics. It was lots of fun but we needed to be very resilient and work through a few technical issues! In Health, we have been discussing friendships and the problems friends face. We created some amazing comics about friendships.

Room 24

Term 2 has been busy for Room 24, preparing for, and then undertaking NAPLAN testing.

After NAPLAN we needed some comic relief, so we learnt about the elements of comic strips. We focused on drawing facial expressions to convey the story. Then we planned, wrote and illustrated our own comics. They were beautifully presented and very entertaining. We also designed comics on the iPad and printed our comics to share with the class.

This term we have been learning about Point of View and how to write a convincing argument following a Persuasive Writing structure.

Our Assembly entertained the audience with a reader’s theatre about the ‘Three Little Pigs’ from the wolf’s point of view and also a song called ‘The Three Little Pigs Rap’. We enjoyed learning these items and loved performing them even more!

After the Assembly, the day became more exciting with our parents visiting our classroom to look at all the fabulous work we have done. We have all worked so hard this term!

Room 25

This term has been a very busy term for us! Please enjoy a snapshot of a few activities we have been involved in.

We have loved being back with our buddies on a regular basis. They have been helping us practise our mental maths skills by teaching us how to play Numero. Some of us even beat our Year 6 buddies!

Some special events that we were involved in this term were NAPLAN, PJ Day, National Simultaneous Storytelling Time and making posters for Ride to School Day. Although some of us were nervous for NAPLAN, we did it with a smile and tried our best!

We have had lots of fun beginning to learn about procedure writing. We tried to instruct Miss Morley how to make fairy bread… it was a disaster, but it was extremely funny. We learned that we need to give very specific, step by step instructions. We then practised our procedure writing by making slime and writing our own procedure. It was the best day ever!

Our class, along with Room 28, will be running the NAIDOC assembly at the end of this term. In preparation we have been learning about the Noongar language, seasons and symbols. Room 28 has joined us for assembly practise, and we are all looking forward to performing to the school.

Room 26

This term, we have experienced our first NAPLAN assessments, which we handled brilliantly.

We have investigated which new flavour of ice-cream the Year 3 students would like if we were to invent a new flavour.  We tallied and graphed our results and found that marshmallow was the most popular, followed by fruit rainbow.

We have learnt how to see both sides of an argument and honed our persuasive skills by writing persuasive essays. Should all children learn how to cook? Is having siblings better than being an only child? Should Mother Pig have let her piglets leave home?

Our most exciting event was our assembly! We presented a readers’ theatre about The Three Little Pigs and sang a cool rap about them too. All of our parents came into to our classroom afterwards to see our work. It was a great day!

Room 28

Term 2 has been a very busy term for Room 28.  We started the term with our first NAPLAN tests.  We were well prepared and had no troubles.  It wasn’t as scary as we thought it would be.

To celebrate the end of NAPLAN, we also completed a fun STEM Challenge.  In our groups, we were tasked with designing and building a table that stood at least 30cm tall.  This doesn’t seem too tricky, however the only materials that we were allowed to use were newspaper and masking tape.  After planning and building our tables, we then saw how many Soundwaves books our table would hold.  This was great fun!

In the last few weeks, we have started to prepare our NAIDOC assembly item with Room 25.  We are getting really good at our item and can’t wait for our assembly.

We have been really lucky as this term we have had Miss D’Cruz teaching us.  She is learning to be a teacher and we have had so much fun learning from her.  We will miss her when she goes back to university next term.
