It was wonderful visiting some of our junior classrooms recently. Students in Room 23 and Room 25 are sharing a technology project. They have been learning all about sustainability and used this knowledge to design their own shoes. Pictured is Room 23 with the beginning of their designs. I’m looking forward to seeing their finished product. Room 25 held a shoe fashion parade for Mrs Lindley and myself. I’m sure there are some budding shoe designers in this class!
Parent interviews commence next Wednesday 29th June from 12 noon. Students will only be released to go home if they have a note returned from their parent/carer or an adult collects the student on the day from 12 noon.
Children are welcome to use the pre-primary and kindergarten playground after school from 3:00 - 3:30pm if they are in Kindergarten to Year 2 and accompanied by an adult. Parent/carers please note that teachers are still working and often have meetings in their classrooms immediately after school. I ask that you do not wait on the verandah of Cygnet Block but instead move to the grassed areas when looking after your children. Children playing games where they are yelling to one another is not suitable in this area. This is of particular importance next week when a number of parent interviews will be held in the afternoons across the week in Cygnet Block classrooms.
We have had 200 positive Covid cases since the 5th May. Currently we have 5 active student cases and 1 staff case. It is pleasing to see a dramatic reduction of active cases and a return to more normal schooling in the last fortnight.
Congratulations to Mr Crouch for organising the cross country last week. We were treated to a beautiful day of fine weather. Congratulations to all of the students who participated on the day. I wish those who have been selected to represent Burrendah PS in the Interschool Cross Country all the best when they compete in Term 3.
We have held 4 Class Opens this term, Room 16b, Room 17, Room 24, and Room 26 with a fabulous turn out of parents/carers. We have planned more Class Opens next semester for other year levels/classes.
Next Friday 1st July is a whole school assembly. All families are welcome to this event. Students have been practising several items that I know our audience will enjoy. The assembly is hosted by Room 25 and Room 28 with assistance from the EAL/D team and Mrs Coleman. The assembly commences at 8:50am.
There are a number of staff who will be taking leave next semester. Families, where teachers are changing, have already been notified.
Mrs Deb Taylor will be returning from long service leave. Thank you to Mrs French who worked in Mrs Taylor’s role while Mrs Taylor was on leave.
Thank you to Ms Ing Anggadjaja who filled in Room 12 and Mr Sanny Chong in Room 11 this term. Mrs Ashleigh Turvey will be in these rooms from Term 3, returning from maternity leave.
Mrs Maria Loss-Suehrcke has resigned as our Italian teacher. Mrs Bronwynne Jones will be teaching all Italian classes from next term. Thank you to Mrs Gloria Nicolosi who filled in this position on Mondays this term.

Thank you to all of our practicum students who were learning the craft of teaching this term. It has been a pleasure having you working in our school. We wish you the best for your future career as a teacher.

Year 4, Room 27 students and Mrs Richardson will be moving classrooms next Thursday. The old Room 27 transportable will be removed in the holidays. Room 27 students will be in Room 21. Italian classes will move to the school hall. Mrs Coleman will contact IMSS students regarding the placement of their music lessons if they are in the school hall and will be moving to a different venue.
This is our final newsletter for this term. School holidays commence next week from Friday afternoon, 1st July. Staff will be returning on Monday 18th July and students return on Tuesday 19th July. If your child contracts Covid and is in isolation for the beginning of Term 3, please contact Reception. Reception will be open from Monday 18th July.
Swimming lessons commence for Year 2, 3, 5 & 6 together with Year 1’s in Room 18, Week 1 Wednesday the 20th July. Please ensure you mark all student's belongings with their name in case their belongings become misplaced.
I wish everyone a safe and relaxing break.
