Halo semuanya - hello everyone!
Welcome to Term 3! We hope that you enjoyed the break and that you are looking forward to coming back as much as we are!
This week we begin our swimming program which all parents are welcome to come and watch. Due to an interrupted timetable, we will be beginning our Parent Helper program in Week 3 (25/7). Please reach out to your child’s classroom teacher if you would like to assist with reading in the classroom. Tania Hosken will be running our Parent Helper Course to offer scaffolds and strategies to support students in (and out) of the classroom. This program will run in school hours. Please stay tuned for confirmation of the time and date! Our PMP sign-up sheet will remain in the office if you are available on Friday. As we have had an increased number of parents available, we may only require your assistance during your child’s session. Thank you so much for your flexibility in relation to these sessions. Students have thoroughly enjoyed having you in the classroom and our community feels stronger than ever after two unpredictable years.
Student portfolio tasks will continue to be uploaded onto Seesaw to give you an insight into what we are looking at in the classroom and your child’s ‘next steps’ in different learning areas. We continue to encourage your interactions through comments or use of the ‘like’ function. As part of our Speaking and Listening curriculum, we will be beginning structured Sharing Time sessions in the classroom. Topics for Sharing Time will be shared through Seesaw and we encourage you to support your child to discuss these topics at home to make them feel confident and prepared to share at school.
This week we will be linking lots of our learning to our swimming program! In Maths, we will look at sharing, capacity and length as part of our swimming project. We look forward to our STEM ‘Float or Sink’ challenge at the end of the week too! In Literacy, we will begin looking at ‘Writing to Entertain’ as we continue to discuss the purpose of different texts. ‘Bridge and Beyond’ is our Guided Inquiry topic for this term and we are so excited to being incorporating the Student Voice collected in our bridge immersion at the end of Term 2. Play-Based Learning will also be guided by student interests and wonderings. We are calling out for any parents or carers with particular expertise in these areas to please contact us with any ideas! While connections to bridges (architects, engineers, builders) are welcome, we also ask anyone with any special skills in sports, art or any other areas to let us know! We would love to think of creative ways to enhance our play-based learning with the knowledge and skills of our amazing community.
Once again, welcome back and thank you in advance for your support through what will be a tiring few weeks of swimming!
Your Foundation teaching team,
Brooke Henwood, Jessica Tossell and Ella Gasowski.
