Principal's Message
Term 3 Week 1 2022
We hope that you had a restful break with family. Today is the beginning of our Whole School Swimming program and we know that with having had interrupted or no programs over previous years, how important it is for students to revise, practice and be introduced to new water safety skills. This program is one of the most subsidised programs we have run, with increased funding support from DET. We look forward to seeing students' confidence and skills grow across the two weeks. Huge thank you to all of our families for supporting the program too.
Last term teachers were busy planning our guided inquiry unit on Discovery. Students across the school participated in different immersion activities to get them excited and curious about what is coming. It also allowed teachers the opportunity to collect some information about what the students are interested in learning about. The Inquiry Units allow teachers to connect learning across the curriculum and includes Science, The Humanities and Personal and Social Capabilities. Check out each learning centre’s Statement of Intent in the Important Information to see what your child will be learning about.
We started our biennial MPGT final with the Junior MPGT followed by the Senior MPGT.
The Performing Arts Captains hosted the event and did an amazing job of introducing all the performers and making sure the whole event ran smoothly . The Junior classes watched the Junior performances and the Senior classes watched the Senior performances. The parents of the performers were also invited to attend.
It’s a huge opportunity for students to experience performing and it was impressive to see how supportive the audience was of all acts.
The winners of the Junior MPPGT were
3rd Place - Matilda F & Malia K
2nd Place - Yvon Z
1st Place - Arya A
As Lily in 5/6W writes about the Senior MPGT “All the acts were outstanding with Liam and Thomas’s magic act tying with Bastion’s song and guitar performance in third place. In second place came Jason and Jeffrey’s piano recital and in first place came Zsofia’s breathtaking ballad! “
I would like to thank Mrs Claire Andrews for all her work on organising and preparing students for the talent show, including our judges - some local, Erin Bennetts, Amanda Nelson, Andrew Shaw and Tegan Kitteringham and Ms Tanya Burton who was on an internship at MPRPS and has an extensive Performing Arts experience. We also were treated to a performance by the Dance Troupe with thanks to Tegan Kitteringham.
Tanya joined our school for the Unlocking Potential: Principal Preparation (UP) program in Term 3. A part of the program involved Tanya completing an internship consisting of a 20-day placement at MPRPS, working alongside an experienced mentor principal. Thank you to the families that allowed Tanya to attend meetings and made her feel welcome. A part of the program required Tanya to present to staff all that she had learned and what she will be taking away from the experience. It was a great way to end the term, to hear how much Tanya valued the experience and also how highly she regards the staff, students and families at MPRPS.
The students in 5/6EB wrote Pleasant News and it was published at the end of Term 2. Pleasant News is written by the students for all of the MPRPS community to celebrate events and achievements across the term. For a first, this Pleasant News highlighted many of our academic achievements through showcasing different curriculum areas across the school.
Congratulations to Alan in 5/6EB on receiving the June Aussie of the Month award. Alan is a respected member of 5/6EB who exemplifies each of the school values. He is a responsible and reliable person, always willing to assist teachers and students across the Learning Centre. Alan is respectful, caring and honest and is always there to support his friends and classmates.
Alan is polite and kind to students and staff alike and is a great role model to his peers in the Leadership Centre. He collaborates effectively with students in the class and others across the Centre, and through his formal and informal leadership roles, he ensures that all students have the opportunity to be heard.
Alan is a self-motivated and creative person who constantly strives to improve his work and achieve his goals. He loves to challenge himself during mathematics sessions and is able to make considered reflections about his learning. Alan demonstrates a love of learning by working to improve his skills across the school day, after school, and on the weekends, through a range of studies and extracurricular activities, including languages and multiple musical instruments.
Alan has shown dedication through his attendance at each SRC meeting where he confidently reports ideas and opinions to and from the class. It has been an absolute pleasure to see him grow in confidence and become such an important member of 5/6EB.
Last week people across the country celebrated NAIDOC Week to recognise the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. NAIDOC Week is an opportunity for all Australians to learn about First Nations cultures and histories and participate in celebrations of the oldest, continuous living cultures on earth. Learning about Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander histories and cultures is embedded in the Victorian Curriculum and can be incorporated into different learning areas. Whether it is through storytelling and picture storybooks in English, responding to visual artworks in the Arts, or exploring the Country our school is located on in Geography, teachers work together on integrating First Nations perspectives. The theme for 2022 is Get Up, Stand Up, Show Up and is a great opportunity to participate in a range of activities and to support and amplify the voices of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities. You may hear your children discussing what they have been doing in class last term and this term to celebrate and recognise NAIDOC week.
We are currently finalising the placements for Year 7 2023 with relevant secondary schools. Parents and carers will receive a letter on Wednesday 20th July stating the secondary school your child has been accepted to. You will need to return the Year 7 Placement Acceptance Slip to school by Wednesday 10th August. From the 21st July, parents/carers have the option of using the Year 6 to Year 7 Transition Placement Appeal Form if they did not receive their preferred placement.
