Important Reminder

There is no school on Monday 8th of August, this is a student free day as teachers will be having their Professional Practice Day. Professional practice days provide teachers with release from their scheduled duties  to focus on the improved delivery of high quality teaching and learning.

97, 98, 99, …….. 100 days smarter! (2.0)

We are happy to announce that on Tuesday 16th of August the Foundation students will celebrate their rescheduled 100 days of school. Students will celebrate this fantastic milestone with different activities such as representing the number 100, describing what they might look like at 100 years old and having a lovely picnic together as a whole year level.

To commemorate this special day, we encourage students to dress up as if they were 100 years old. This is always a huge highlight of our day and we cannot wait to see all the costumes.  We will also have a parade to celebrate our wonderful “elderly” students in our new gym.  All parents are welcome to join us at 9:10am.

Book Week 2022

Our annual Book Week Parade, will be held on Tuesday, 30 August at 9:15am. We

encourage all of our students to dress up as their favourite book character. Both students and staff will have a parade to celebrate their wonderful costumes.

We will also have an open session from 2:45 to 3:30 pm on the same day for families to come into classrooms and experience book themed activities.

Father's Day Celebrations

Our Father's Day Stall will take place on Thursday 1st September and Friday 2nd September.   Classes will be allocated a day where they will be given the opportunity to shop for their father, step father,  grandfather or any other special person in their lives. The stall is run by parent helpers who are there to help out the children on the day and gifts range from $1- $5. The stall is not a fundraiser.  Prices are set to cover costs only and does not make a profit.

Save the Date for our Father's Day Picnic to be held on Friday 2nd September from 12:30-1:00pm. More information will be sent closer to the date.

Acara Item Trial

Clyde Primary school has been selected by the Australian Curriculum, Assessment and Reporting Authority (ACARA) to participate in this year’s Item Trial.  The purpose of the Item Trial is to evaluate potential NAPLAN test questions (‘items’) for use in future NAPLAN tests. By participating in the tests, ACARA will be able to use the information gained to ensure that future NAPLAN tests are valid, reliable and fair for all students.

Next week some students in Year 3 and Year 5 will be selected to participate in the trial and will sit a reading and language conventions test online.  Parents of students who are selected will be notified via Compass and provided with further information.

AFL Regionals

On Wednesday 3rd August, our AFL team competed in our Regional Competition at

Bonbeach.  It has been a fun journey getting to this stage, having to win Lightning Premiership, District playoff and then Division.  We had won every game to get there.  It was tough competition on the day, and it didn’t go our way, but the team did such a great job.  They were positive, resilient and played some really good football.  They showed determination, teamwork and sportsmanship.  We are all really proud of the team, it is the furthest Clyde Primary has made it in AFL.  Congratulations to the AFL team on such a fantastic job.

Senior Hooptime

On Wednesday 3rd August, we had 6 Basketball teams that competed at Senior Hooptime at Casey Stadium.  All the teams did such a fantastic job.  We had one team that made it to the semi finals, which was a great result. We had 2 teams come second and a team came 4th in game wins.  It was such a fun day for all students and staff.   Well done to all the competitors.

Casey Netball Tournament:

Next Tuesday, 9th August, we have 4 teams of Year 5 and 6s competing in the Casey Netball Tournament at Casey Stadium.  We look forward to some great competition and a really fun and active day.

Music Program

We are thrilled to announce that Ms Vindy Gunasekera has accepted the position for our, recently advertised, new Music Teacher.  Mrs Gunasekera (Mrs G) will begin on Monday 15th August in our brand new music room at the stage end of the gym.  Mrs G has been teaching in local schools for many years and has a strong passion for Music.  We welcome Mrs G to Clyde PS!

We also continue to offer students small group keyboard and guitar lessons through the

company Excel Music.  This is an extra-curricular activity although lessons are held during school time at a cost of $13.00 per lesson.  To find out more or enroll your child, please obtain an enrolment form from the school office or contact Excel Music, (03) 9801 8991 or music@excelmusic.com.au.

COVID-19 Household Contacts

Students and staff who are household contacts of a COVID-19 case are not required to quarantine.  They may return to school as long as they undertake rapid antigen tests (RAT) 5 times during their 7-day period.  They are required to notify the school that they are a household contact.

Students aged 8 years and above and staff who are household contacts are required to wear face masks when indoors at school unless they have a valid exemption.  If a student/staff household contact returns a positive RAT result, they must isolate for 7 days.

New Build Update

This week we were delighted to have begun using 2 of our new buildings, including the new Administration area, staffroom, canteen, junior playground, learning spaces and gym.

You may have noticed the builders have started demolition works on the old buildings, this includes demolition of the old multipurpose room, the STEM room and front playground. A traffic management plan has been devised between the builders and Casey council to safely allow trucks to enter and exit through the old main entrance.

I have been working with Casey Council parking officers to relocate the disabled parking up closer to the new main entrance. This should occur shortly and I apologise for the temporary inconvenience this causes.

Part of the next stage of the project is to update and modernise the original schoolhouse (previously our office building). The internal and externals of the building will get an update and become a beautiful library and learning space area, to be completed early next year. The previous Art room and Music portable will be removed by the Education Department and relocated offsite.

Preparation has begun on our new school oval, which will be located in the north-east corner of the school adjacent to Clyde Fiveways Road.

As with any major building project, there have been some delays in furniture and fittings. In the next few weeks we hope to see the installation of a new sandpit, the bike shelter, outside bench seating and further grounds work.

Foundation 2023

We are excited to begin welcoming our Foundation 2023 students at our first Transition Session on Friday 9th September. If you have a child that will begin at school next year and you haven’t filled in your enrolment form, can you please contact the office so we can send home an enrolment form.

Policies

We have recently updated a number of policies and these can be found on our website https://clydeps.vic.edu.au/about-us/#policies.  Clyde Primary School’s Complaints Policy has been updated and this outlines the process that students, parents and the school community can follow when they have a concern or a complaint.  Other policies that have been updated are our Yard Duty and Supervision Policy, to reflect our school's new play areas and new buildings, and our School Camps and Excursions Policy.
