Health/PE
Term 2, 2022
This Term has been an extremely busy one within the health and PE realm.
Last year Mrs Martin secured a grant for a second time, called club connect, which has enabled us to run another after school sport for the students of Hackham East. This term we have offered students from year 3-7 (and some younger siblings) the possibility to participate in a FREE after school Orienteering program on Thursday afternoons from 3:15 to 4:15. The program started in week 2 and will be continuing until the end of week 9. The Program has been run on our school oval and over forty students have been participating.
This term we are also offering all students the opportunity to participate in a FREE after school Speed Stacking club, Hackham’s stackers. Jaydyn Coggins, his mum and official Sport stacking judge Rachel and Step dad as well as official Sport stacking judge Adam running another after school program of Sport stacking for the students of Hackham East. The program only started on Monday of week 5 and will continue until the end of term. This program is run in the Penny space from 3pm till 5pm. Everyone is welcome, all you have to do is complete the form that went home (spares can be picked up from the office) and return it to Rachel.
Coming up in the near future is another Cup stacking championship. Held in the Penny Space on July 9th and 10th. This is another great opportunity for our students to test their skills against others from around Australia. Parents you can participate too!
This term in PE we have been working on the Strategies of Invasion games. An invasion game is any game that has two teams playing offence and defence where the intention is to score a goal, try or touchdown. We started with the game of basketball and in the second half of the term we have moved on to the game of Hockey. Using our Sporting Schools Grant, we have a Hockey Specialist working with our students for four sessions, teaching them specialist skills to enable them to transfer the invasion game strategies that they have been learning from basketball and implement them into the game of Hockey. So far, the students have enjoying this immensely.
