Term 2, 2022
Bonjour à tous! Hello everyone!
It is wonderful to have students back this term and see how they have continued to demonstrate their School Values and the Golden Rule. We are now leading up to our annual HEPS French Day.
HEPS FRENCH DAY – WEEK 10 FRIDAY 8th JULY
The theme for French Day this year will be “Famous French People” and, once again, our Year 6 students will be planning and running the day’s events! They have been busy researching and preparing lessons to teach their peers and I look forward to seeing them use their Courage and Resilience on the day.
We will begin the day with a student-led Welcome Assembly with a performance from Miss McGarvey/Mrs Hazelwood’s and Mrs Dowd/Mrs Gossink’s Reception/1 classes. The assembly will also be a time for students to showcase their French learning and the winners of the “French Portrait” competition will be announced (details to be provided soon). Unfortunately, parents will not be able to attend in person this year, but the assembly will be live-streamed onto our FB page. As in previous years all students and staff are encouraged to attend the day wearing French inspired outfits, although this is not compulsory. The canteen will have a special French lunch order available for the day with order forms coming soon.
TERM 2 FRENCH LEARNING
Castle students have been learning about les saisons and le temps (the seasons and the weather) through games, songs and activities.
Year 2/3 students have been learning animal names in French and recognising masculine, feminine and plural ‘the’. They then wrote sentences using adjectives and body parts.
Mrs Jolley’s 3/4s have been learning some grammar rules in French. They began with free-reading a range of texts and are now using new strategies such as the ‘ç’ makes an ‘s’ sound and don’t pronounce the beginning letter ‘h’, to improve their pronunciation.
The Year 4/5s explored the comptine (French nursery rhyme) ‘Un petit cochon’ and made a book of the song to read to a younger peer. They then used the same format to create their own comptine.
Mr Cronin’s Year 6s have looked at a variety of French people and what they are known for. They are now working in small groups to research a famous French person and create an activity to run on French Day.
I look forward to celebrating French Day with our school community and will be sending more information about the day soon.
Merci! J Madame Mawson
