Foundation Art

In Foundation students have been busy creating Father’s Day and Special person cards. They used their prior knowledge on paper folding techniques to create their cards.

Following on from this activity, they continued to practice paper folding to consolidate their learning and complete their ‘Emotion’ Trees.

In both activities students were reminded to practice skills and processes that they have learned about in previous lessons. They were also prompted to form discussions with their peers to gain observation and perspectives on the current art element; Texture. Through the discussion process, knowledge is gained and forms the catalyst to spark idea generation.  Students then build on their own artistic knowledge, leading them be risk takers and try new ways to produce art.

Years 1 and 2

Over the past couple of weeks students in years 1 and 2 have created Father’s Day and Special person cards. They showed they could think about using folding techniques as well as incorporate others art elements such as those of line, colour and pattern with the materials on offer; to create their Special card.

Following on from our Father’s Day and Special person cards, students continued to complete the next stage of their assemblage pieces. They focused on how their choice of paint (both oil based and acrylic) may impact the environment. Students were informed on eco-friendly acrylic paints and the benefits of using this paint as opposed to oil-based paint for their assemblage pieces. Students below painted their first coat of acrylic paint.

Year 3

Students in the middle years prepared for Father's Day too! Below Year 3 students created their Father’s Day/ Special person cards and in this activity, students had to draw on their mathematical knowledge of Measurement. They used the width of the ruler to measure where to fold and they also had to estimate lengths. Once estimates were taken, they then measured accurately before cutting.

In the following week they continued to complete the next part of their self-portraits. They  finalised their self-portrait sketch, traced it onto tracing paper and transferred it onto the foam board.

With the help of this project, students were able to appreciate and comprehend the printing procedure as well as the steps an artist must take to complete a print.

Year 4

Year 4's have finished the term on a meditative and relaxing end.  They had the opportunity to complete their sand mandalas from a previous art unit. Students enjoyed peeling of stickers and sprinkling various coloured sand onto their cardboard mandala sheet to create their beautiful artworks. They looked at colour contrast and colour harmony in this project as they selected colours that complemented each other. Students also used pattern and symmetry in creating this project as they continued and completed their art on radial symmetry.

Year 5

Students in year 5 have learned about Pablo Picasso and cubism. They have completed their analytical cubism piece and are now working on their symbolic cubist pieces where they explored continuous line drawing. Students were encouraged to draw a variety of faces using a single line, a technique inspired from Pablo Picasso, the father of the cubist movement.

Year 6

Students in year 6 have completed their self portraits and have worked well in this unit as they explored their identity. Students learned how to draw proportional facial features and express their view of themselves via portraiture. They also investigated in to why other artists create self portraits and what messages they are trying to portray to the audience. Students choose to represent themselves in their portraits wearing colours that represent their personality and symbols that they can identify with.
