Prep News

Dear Prep Families and carers,

We have yet again, completed another successful Term of Prep. The students have continued to grow both academically and socially over Term 3. Students have had the opportunity to participate in many special events throughout Term, including 100 days of school, book week, colour run and the Zoo excursion just to name a few.

We are thankful for the support of the Prep Families and carers throughout the Term to make these events possible for our students.

Zoo Excursion

Our Prep students had their first excursion to the Werribee Zoo. They were so excited to hop onto the bus and take the journey to the Zoo. The students walked around and had the opportunity to see many animals including meerkats, gorillas, kangaroos and koalas. We then, explored the Zoo further on the Safari Bus where we got super close to giraffes, zebras, hippopotamus and many more animals. We were able to see their habitat and how they live together. The students were thrilled to take part in the habitat heroes’ program, they explored using their senses to uncover how living things grow, change and survive in nature. We were super proud of our Prep’s and their resilience throughout the day and the curiosity and questioning they exhibited.

Reading

In Reading, we have continued to explore different ways the author can engage their audience and exploring the moral of the story within a range of Julia Donaldson texts and fairy tales including ‘The Three Little Pigs’ and ‘The Gingerbread man’. We reflected on events that took place within the text in the beginning, middle and end.

Writing

As we come to the end of our Unit of inquiry ‘How We Express Ourselves’ students engaged in a writing task where they exhibited their knowledge on identifying the moral within a story. The Prep students then had the opportunity to create a shared moral and then create their own class story including the moral within the text.

Students then, reflected on their achievements throughout the Term and wrote about what they were proud of and why, this exhibited their ability to show the attitude of a reflective learner.

Mathematics

In Mathematics, students continued to explore the concept of time. When learning about time, students explored the features of an analogue clock and inquired into different times. Students participated in a range of activities where they learnt about a range of times including o’clock and telling the time to the half-hour.

Grade 6 Exhibition

The Preps were excited to attend the year 6 exhibition with their class during the week. Students got to be part of the grade 6's inquiry units and learn about a variety of topics the grade 6's had been researching.
