Year 10 Careers Day
On Tuesday, 14 June, all Year 10 students took part in a full day of Careers activities. The first half of the day, the students had a dynamic speaker from Success Integrated who led them through a series of career exercises, and culminating in students setting specific goals for their direction beyond school. The students also completed a MBIT (Myers-Briggs Type Indicator) assessment that can be useful in knowing how people perceive the world and make decisions. It can also be used as a guide to a career type. The presentation included a DJ which kept the students connected with the speaker. Overall, the students rated the presentation very high. Here are some photos from the day.
The second half of the day focused on VCE, VCAL and VET. The students viewed a recently produced video by Angie Greaves (Careers & Pathways Coordinator) and Lucas Carlson (Audio Visual) about these options. It featured teacher, student and VTAC representative speakers. The students will be emailed a copy of the video so that they can view it again during the upcoming term holidays.
The last period of the day students to complete an online vocational testing program called Career Voyage. The program helped the students find jobs suitable to them. It provided reports including personal profile information, pros and cons of different jobs, and lots of other useful information. Students can access the results from this program at home.
VTAC Information Night
A very important and informative night for Year 12 students and their parents is the VTAC Information Night on Thursday 28 July in the Kilbreda College Hall. If you want to assist your Year 12 son with his VTAC applications for both University and TAFE, then this is a must attend evening. Please put it in your diary. Further information will follow.
Year 10 Parents
The recent PACTS information night on 8 June was well attended by the Year 10 parents. Here is a document titled, 10 tips to increase your child’s interest in careers’, plus some useful websites that I distributed on the night. You might like to download a copy.
