Multicultural Committee News

Welcome back to the third term of the school year. 

 

The Multicultural Committee commenced the term with its first meeting on Monday, 22 July. The meeting included guest speakers presenting very informative updates.  Kaled, Multicultural Service Officer, provided information from Centrelink and Gabriella from Victoria University Polytechnic introduced a Youth Program (EAL Cert 1, 2 and 3) for young people 16 years to 24 years of age, based in Corio.  Speak to Mrs Dudas or your EAL teach for more information.

The next Multicultural Committee meeting will be held on Monday, 26 August at lunchtime (12:45 pm) in the new conference room.

Junior Speech Contest

The Japanese Language Teachers Association of Victoria will be holding its annual Junior Speech Contest on Sunday, 25 August at Presentation College Windsor. There is still time for our students to prepare for the competition. If you are interested in representing our school, please contact Ms Castle by 31 July for the registration process.

 

The Geelong Japanese Speech Contest will be held on Sunday, 8 September. “The Geelong Japanese Speech Contest brings together Japanese learners from the region to demonstrate their Japanese speaking ability and for the greater community to celebrate their efforts. The contest aims to be an enjoyable and lively event with interesting speech performances by students from a variety of backgrounds and ability levels.” If you are interested, please contact Ms Castle by 31 July for the registration process.

Japanese Video Matsuri

A timely reminder that the Japan Foundation Japanese Video Matsuri is still open for entries. The Video Matsuri is an annual student short film contest.

Entries must:

  • be from Australian and New Zealand students
  • no longer than 3 minutes
  • include the Japanese language
  • include a featured item of the year (Chopsticks)

There are no restrictions on style or theme, as long as it is age appropriate. You can produce a comedy, a drama, or a documentary! So why not enter and combine your Japanese ability with your creativity and acting skills?

Entry Deadline: 16 September, 2019 to Japan Foundation Sydney.
