Visual Arts
What a busy couple of weeks we have had. The senior students enjoyed our Street Art excursion last week. They were very well behaved and a great representation of the terrific students we have at KPS. The students loved getting inspiration from all the amazing street art that Melbourne has to offer and they then were lucky enough to enter an art studio and see first hand what happens behind the scenes. They are now using what they have been taught to create their own street art masterpieces on their own individual skateboards. I cannot wait to see the finished results.
Some of our senior students also had their art on display at Yarra Hills Secondary School last weekend. Hopefully, some of our families were able to drop in and have a look at their fantastic art work. Well done to the following students for submitting their art work: Brodie, Cooper, Courtney, Dylan, Kaylee, Lili, Maddie, Sharnie, and Stralia.

Science
In Science we are having waaaaayyyy too much fun! Physical Sciences is the best!
Foundation students have continued to learn about objects that move. We've taken learning outside and found objects that move in different places around the school. We also found the way things move can change. It was lots of fun exploring the playground equipment in our investigation. The Foundies can also classify the way toys move with wheels and joints being a focus.
The Junior Students have been exploring push and pull forces. We have discovered that water has an upwards force and this allows objects to float. We also discovered that some objects have a greater density and sink. The greatest discovery has been that changing the shape of an object can influence whether it sinks or floats.
Middle Students have continued some amazing investigations into forces and the latest focus has been friction. This has provided some amazing opportunities for practical investigations including building friction by rubbing our hands together and then observing what happens when we add dishwashing liquid. We pushed bricks over different surfaces to see which has the most friction. It's sand by the way. By far the BEST investigation was the tug-a-war. We investigated what would happen just using bare hands and then one team donned gloves to see if that increased or decreased friction. Even better was having Mr Gooding and Mr McInerney as part of the teams!
Senior Students have been busy learning about energy transfer and transformation. They have been investigating objects around the school and identifying the energy they are emitting and the energy they are using. This week we've started learning about alternative forms of energy and measured optimal conditions to collect solar energy. Dark colours absorb heat and make a great addition to collecting solar energy.
Outside of classes I have been delighted to see all the Science that is going on around the school. We have such curious students and it is fantastic to see them apply their knowledge in real world situations. Sienna and her team have taken control of the discovery garden, kindly donated to the school, and there are already shoots and promising growth. Abby C has shared her passion for all things caterpillars & butterflies. Students in Grade 1 and 2 had the benefit of her fabulous knowledge when she brought in her butterfly house. Bella J was so inspired she built a very accurate model of a caterpillar!

Cake Stall Thank You!
From the bottom of our hearts Kym, Jacob and I would like to say a very heartfelt and grateful thank you to everyone who donated a cake, slice or other baked good. We truly appreciate the generosity and the way you took time out of your busy days to support both our stall and our school. The stall was an outstanding success with such an array of amazing home baked goodies. We simply could not have done it without you all. I'd also like to add a very special thank you to our mums; Mel, Sharon, Sarah and Amy for coming in to lead me in the pricing and setting up of all the treats.
