Year 11 Captains' Report

The closer we get to the end of the year, the busier life is getting.

2019 School Production - AIDA

We are at the end  of our school production now and all the cast, crew and band have put in tireless hours of work to make this show as amazing as it is.

Our 'Show Week' began with a preview show, for teachers to come and see.  This was a great opportunity to perform with an audience for the first time.

We then continued to perform two shows for local primary school students, who loved the opportunity of seeing something they don't normally get to, along with getting to meet the cast at the end.

We loved having such a different audience and seeing their excitement at all the different moments throughout the show.

We then reached the official shows. Finally, getting to see our months and months of hard work pay off with cheering and laughs was so rewarding and we will all cherish the lasting memories this show has brought us.

On behalf of the whole cast we would like to thank all of the teachers, volunteers, band and crew for all their effort towards making this show as successful as it has been, without you we would just have a group of students standing randomly on the stage singing.

English Texts

On Thursday 15 August, English students were given the opportunity to see snippets from ‘Black Diggers’ and ‘The Longest Memory’, our two comparative texts for this unit.

This experience was really helpful when it comes to visualising the texts, in order to comprehensively compare them.

We also loved getting some photos with the actors afterwards, after recognising them from shows such as ‘Mortified’, ‘Angry Boys’ and ‘My Place’.

As we wind down Term 3, we hope everyone takes the time to talk to their teachers to stay on top of their work and remember to take time to relax and stay healthy.

Year 12 Captains' Report

We have surpassed the halfway mark of Term 3, filled with sacs and stress. As we approach our last set of SACs and begin to approach exam preparations, our cohort is mixed with excitement for concluding high school, but also fear of entering the real world. We are confident and have trust that everyone, will attempt to make the most of the time we have left and put their best efforts into their final SACs and exam revision.

In addition to this, over the past two weeks we had a session regarding how to apply for University and have begun putting in our preferences  for University and TAFE. making the reality of this being our final year in high school, even more real.

Furthermore, we had a visit from the Pat Cronin Foundation, informing us of the dangers of king hitting, raising awareness for violence which was very eye opening and resulted in many tears.  Thank you to the organisation for coming to share the information.

Good luck to everyone for the remainder of the term!

VCAL Community Day

On Tuesday 13 August, the VCAL Intermediate students held a community day for their ‘Personal Development Assessments’, running food and drink stalls during lunchtime to raise money for various charities, including: Breast Cancer Foundation, Pet Haven (Bayswater Animal Shelter) and to a local primary school to build bench seats and shop fronts.

Well done to these students on their hard work!

VCE SACs

A reminder that if your child misses a School Assessed Coursework (SAC) they must get a medical certificate to enable them to sit the SAC in the next available IPT time slot.

Students will not be granted SAC redemption unless they have a medical certificate or it is a school-approved absence. If there are extenuating circumstances, please let us know and we will make a decision based on the VCAA guidelines.

Once a student has been approved for SAC redemption, they will be required to sit the SAC the next available time slot.

The Term 3,  IPT schedule has been posted on the Year 11 and 12 Noticeboards and Google Classrooms.

VCE Attendance

It is a requirement at Lilydale High School that students attend all timetabled classes so that teaching and learning opportunities can be maximised.

If students have reached their limit for absences from class there is an opportunity for this time to be redeemed. Students can speak to their Year Level Coordinator to discuss making this time up at lunchtime, during afternoon Study Periods, or after school.

Furthermore, it is a requirement that students attend Home Group, even if they have Study Periods, Periods 1 + 2.

Unexplained Absences

Any absences from school must be parent/guardian approved – you can do this through a signed note or via the Parent Approval Button on Compass.

You can also use Compass to view your student’s past absences.
