Year 11 Captains' Report

As we near the end of not just the term, but the semester, we hope that everyone can reflect on the year so far, both the good and the bad, our failures and our successes, but most importantly, how we have matured so far.

Unfortunately for us, especially our Year 11’s, we can’t seem to catch a break.  Although we just recently finished our exams which were full-on in themselves, we are already jumping into the next units in our sequences, whether that be Unit 2 or Unit 4.  Let these new units be a fresh start for everyone, whilst keeping in mind, all of our experiences from our previous units.

There are lots of exciting events to look forward to in our next term. In Week 2, our annual IDAHOBIT day will be occurring, which will involve lots of music, activities, food and most importantly colour! This will be a great opportunity to express ourselves and have some fun.

Many of us had the chance to express ourselves TODAY,  Friday 28 June, for the bottom half free dress day, organised by the Senior VCAL Personal Development class.

Also starting next term, scarves that are neither black or blue,  will no longer be in accordance with the school uniform rules.  Please make sure you amend your uniform before Term 3 commences.

We hope everyone has a safe and happy holiday and uses the break as a great chance to refresh, before we get right back into the hectic school curriculum next term.

Units 2 & 4

Units 2 and 4 commenced in Week 9 of this term.  Students should have received homework for the study break for each of their subjects.

Middle School/VCE Information Evening

On Wednesday 24 July, The Middle School and Senior School Information Evening is being held.

The Senior School session begins at 7:30 pm for current Year 10 and Year 11 students, following on from the Middle School session at 6.30 pm.

This session will cover the VCE Course selection process and will also provide students and parents with an opportunity to learn about the VCE subjects that students are considering for 2020.

Year 11 into 12 Course Selection - VCE and VCAL

The Year 11 into 12 course selection opens to students on Monday 22 July.

It is important that Year 11 students begin considering and selecting the subjects that they would like to study in Year 12, for 2020.

VCAL Fundraiser Events

On Monday, during  lunchtime, the Senior VCAL Personal Development class held a sausage sizzle to raise funds for the Asylum Seekers Resource Centre.

They also held a bottom half free dress day on Friday 28 June, to raise gold coin donations for the Centre.

TOTAL of $895 was raised for the Asylum Seekers Resource Centre.  Both fundraiser's were a great success for a great cause!

Well done to these students!

VCE Points

All students in Year 11 and 12 are reminded to see their Home Group teachers or a VCE Coordinator to update their points tally for 2019.

VCE students gain points for all sorts of reasons; academic achievement, social service, music, sports, leadership, etc. You are then recognised for this at awards ceremonies, being presented with the relevant badge.

VCE SACs

A reminder that if your child misses a School Assessed Coursework (SAC) they must get a medical certificate to enable them to sit the SAC in the next available IPT time slot.

Students will not be granted SAC redemption unless they have a medical certificate or it is a school-approved absence.

If there are extenuating circumstances please let us know and we will make a decision based on the VCAA guidelines.

Once a student has been approved for SAC redemption, they will be required to sit the SAC the next available time slot.

Attendance

It is a requirement at Lilydale High School that students attend all timetabled classes so that teaching and learning opportunities can be maximised.

If students have reached their limit for absences from class,  there is an opportunity for this time to be redeemed. Students can speak to their Year Level Coordinator to discuss making this time up at lunchtime, during afternoon Study Periods or after school.

Furthermore, it is a requirement that students attend Home Group, even if they have Study Periods, Periods 1 and 2.

APPROVING ABSENCES

Any absences from school must be parent/guardian approved – you can do this through a signed note or via the Parent Approval Button on Compass.

You can also use Compass to view your student’s past absences.
