PRINCIPAL'S REPORT

Dear Parents and members of the MESC Community

I would like to thank the parents who recently attended the Parent Forum as part of our four yearly School Review, and also those parents who completed the Parent Opinion Survey recently distributed to a random selection of families. This extensive review process has just concluded following a large amount of consultation with students, teachers, and School Council and representative parents from our community. The aim of the review is to consider the school’s development and to set future plans.

The independent reviewer was extremely impressed with the school, and commented on the following aspects of our work that she felt were significant points of difference for this school, compared to others in our local area:

  • The very calm and orderly learning environment
  • The positive relationships evident between students and teachers
  • The polite and respectful way students interacted in classes and outside of classes
  • The intelligence of our students and their ability to talk about their learning, and their learning needs
  • The supportive views of parents in relation to the work of the college
  • The huge range of genuine opportunities for students to be involved in extra-curricular events such as sport, performing arts, leadership, and community work. One aspect of our work that became very clear was that whilst larger schools appear to have extensive programs in areas such as sport, it is only the elite students who have the opportunity for involvement compared to this school, where all can participate
  • The successful outcomes/results that we consistently achieve for our students

Our review was considered a ‘light touch’ review due to our quality results, and it was excellent affirmation for all we have done in recent years to receive such positive feedback from an independent reviewer who has looked closely at many of our neighbouring schools in the Frankston and Mornington Peninsula areas. Her conclusion was that teachers are very fortunate to work at this school and students fortunate to learn here. That said, there is always room to improve what we do in order that this school continues to maintain its excellent reputation as a high quality educational provider for the local community. Our future focus will be on empowering students to take greater ownership for their learning, and this will be well supported with our International Baccalaureate Middle Years Program for our years seven, eight and nine students.

Congratulations students, teachers and families!
