Deputy Principals News

End of 2016, Beginning of 2017 – VCE and VCAL

Over the past few weeks we welcomed our Year 12 students for 2017 during our Step Up program and Year 11 students during our Orientation program.  These programs were designed to immerse students into life at Catholic Regional College Sydenham. Students commenced their course of study and were given homework to complete over the Christmas break.  Students should be completing the set homework tasks as well as revising the work completed. Texts for English, English Language and Literature should be also read during this time.

Year 11 students are expected to complete 2-3 hours of home study each night in 2017. Year 12 students are expected to complete 3-4 hours of home study per night. A study timetable is recommended for all students to set out their home study program. Setting up an appropriate workspace will also enhance the time that is allocated to home study.

The 2017 School Year commences with a full day of classes for all students commencing at 9.00am on Wednesday February 1.  All VET and ACU programs that are delivered at the College will commence on the following week on Tues Feb 7, Wed Feb 8 and Thurs Feb 9.

Technology Update

All 2017 Year 11 students were introduced to the requirements of technology use and appropriate use of technology at the college.  Students were provided with access to email, Google suite and SIMON (College Intranet). Subject teachers will distribute access codes for any e-texts when classes commence in 2017.

Work Placement for VCAL Students

Work Placement is an integral component of the VCAL Program and a means of achieving numerous learning outcomes within the program. All Year 12 VCAL students are required to attend work placement one day per week and therefore they must also have employer details finalized and forms completed before the beginning of 2017.

It is expected that Year 12 VCAL students commence their Work Placement on Thursday February 2.  Students who do not have a Work Placement arranged by this time will be expected to attend school on this day, where an alternate program is arranged to assist students to find an adequate placement.

We wish all of our students’ success and happiness in their future endeavors and all families a safe and happy Christmas.

Farewell

As this is the last opportunity I have to communicate with our community it would be remiss of me not to say a very sincere thank you to our families that have supported us this year – parents and students alike.

After eight years at Catholic Regional College Sydenham an a total of 20 years in Education, I also take this opportunity to say Goodbye and hope that you all have a very happy and holy Christmas and wish you all the very best for the future.

May the road rise up to meet you.

May the wind be always at your back.

May the sun shine warm upon your face;

the rains fall soft upon your fields

and until we meet again,

may God hold you in the palm of His hand.
