Principal Message

God of hope and compassion,

You remind us of the need to turn away from our own desires, and to care for our neighbours throughout the world.

We pray that during this time of Lent, we may grow in understanding of the challenges faced by those who are marginalised and vulnerable in our world as as we make a home for them in our hearts.

Enliven our spirits so that we may be people who act when there is a need.

Be with us as we go further together, and walk in solidarity with our brothers and sisters.

We ask this in Jesus’ name.

Amen

Ash Wednesday

Tomorrow students will participate in an Ash Wednesday Liturgy in House Groups. Students will be asked to do something to help others, or give something up, as a sacrifice in preparation for Lent. Ash Wednesday also marks the beginning of our Project Compassion campaign. Students will be fundraising during Homegroup throughout the six weeks of Lent. Students are encouraged to give what they can. The poster to the right shows what the donations collected can do for marginalised people in our global community.

Year 7 Welcome Evening

Last Wednesday night, we welcomed Year 7 parents to the Kildare Catholic College community. Parents and students had the opportunity to hear about the learning and wellbeing opportunities provided at the College, as well as speak to key staff about any questions they had. Thank you to all those who attended. It was a wonderful night. One highlight of the evening was the Year 7 Transition, Literacy and Numeracy Survey. This was completed on the night and gave students and parents the opportunity to talk about their experiences at Kildare to date, whilst also providing us with some instant feedback and data for staff to identify any learning needs in the core essentials of reading and mathematics. There are still 43 students who need to complete the survey. I will share some of the results we gleaned below.

So far at Kildare…

Our staff will be responding to this survey data over the next few weeks by providing a range of literacy and numeracy interventions, including visits to the library to find out what books are available.

Gratitude for Years of Service

Every year, Catholic Education Diocese of Wagga Wagga (CEDWW), acknowledges and celebrates milestones of years of service to Catholic Education. This year we celebrated the following staff and their significant contributions to our school:

  • 10 years service: Geoff McNamara, Colin Taylor, Bettrina Stewart, Steph Garrod, Cath Edwards, Yvonne Curtis
  • 20 years service: Kerrie Green, Karen Smith
  • 35 years service: Michael Mack

Thank you to all of these people. Your service to our community is deeply appreciated.
