IPSHA Junior Debating News

Congratulations to our debaters on their efforts on their first debate in Round 4 of the IPSHA competition last Friday where we travelled to St Luke’s Dee Why. The boys won the Negative and were defeated by the Affirmative.

Both teams were very well prepared, presented very convincing, well researched arguments and showed great teamwork. So pleasing to see the boys increasing in confidence in their rebuttal skills. Well done on your efforts boys, on both debates and the commitment to debating training sessions throughout the term.  For our next debate we travel to Masada College at St Ives on Friday 8th August for Round 5.

AFL:

Right from the start the St Pius boys were ready to play. And play they did, dominating the whole game through excellent team play. Fred Shelton used his enormous talent to bamboozle the opposition and then set up his team mates for plenty of goal scoring opportunities. Alec Sweeney relished the opportunity of having a break from the ruck and backs to take some excellent marks and score some goals of his own. Strong kicking and tackling by Matt Hunt were also a feature of a game. It was also great to see all players try to put into play the defensive skills practised at training with Sam Hollinger consistently demonstrating shepherding, blocking and spoiling. However when he was moved to the forwards he lamented that the ball stopped coming there. I think that says something about his contribution to our defensive end.

Player Points:   3 - Fred Shelton;  2 - Alec Sweeney;  1 – Matthew Hunt

Next game:  After the holidays on Saturday, 28th July v. Knox - 8:00am at Acron Oval, St Ives.

Have a great break boys, and I look forward to our games after the holidays.

Ms D Cummins - Junior AFL Convenor
