Mission & Identity

This week has seen great progress with the collections for Project Compassion. As this is our main fundraising event of the year, we ask that students give generously. The theme of Project Compassion, ‘For a Just Future’,  fits in very well with our 2018 Stewards of Creation theme.

In caring for creation we are all called to reach out to those in our world who do not have the same opportunities we have. Recalling the words spoken at our Ash Wednesday Liturgy last week, ‘May our hands be your hands as we reach out to those in our world who need our help so that they may have a just and peaceful future.'

Several Year 9 and 10 Religion classes listened to a presentation from Father Charles Dittmeier, a missionary priest from Cambodia. He works specifically with children and adults who are hearing impaired.  Students were inspired as they learnt about the programs Father Charles runs with the help and funding of Caritas. It was good to see the connection between the money we give to Caritas through the Project Compassion appeal and the impact it can have on the lives of those in need and their communities.

On Monday Mr Adrian Brannan launched our Lenten Prayer Group which will run for the next five weeks in the Christian Brothers Chapel during Monday lunchtimes. This is a good way for students to incorporate prayer and reflection into their Lenten journey.  Further information can be found below.

We will celebrate our first Chapel Mass on Tuesday 27th of February at 8.00am. All are welcome.

LENTEN BIBLE STUDIES:  The Grace of Forests

Breaking open the Gospel word and contemplating and meditating on the beauty and fragility of our Australian native forests.  Inspired by the weekly Gospels of Lent and the Stewards of Creation theme that Creation is a gift from God, we will hold weekly Bible Discussion on Monday lunchtimes in the Christian Brothers Chapel.

The Weekly discussions will run through until Easter and all students and staff are very welcome.  Please contact Mr Adrian Brannan for further details:  abrannan@stpiusx.nsw.edu.au

THE LIGHT IS ON FOR YOU
