Our New Art Specialist Teacher

Michele Davies is our new Arts specialist supporting creative learning at Roxburgh Homestead.

Michele brings a high level Arts education experience to our community, having previously developed and managed state and national curriculum in this area. She has taught teachers at both Primary and Secondary levels at University of Melbourne and La Trobe University and is a practicing artist engaging both visual and performance methods. Michele has taught in both primary and secondary schools, working with museums, art galleries and visual design businesses and offers Roxburgh Homestead students highly informed knowledge and experience to support their creative learning journeys. Michele is focussed on how arts practices can support children’s broader lifelong learning experiences. This focus includes critical and creative thinking, ethical and cultural understanding and personal and social skills and wellbeing.

This term, students studying visual and performing arts will undertake arts processes that support broader learning applications. In Visual arts they will learn skills and techniques as a basis for designing and creating with drawing using a visual diary practice. They will undertake studies of artists and designers to inform their creative projects. We will look toward nature and the natural world for further inspiration connecting technical artmaking and science.

In Performing Arts students will be encouraged to participate in drama, song and spoken verse in activities and games that focus on building personal confidence and social skills.

Looking forward to another great school term at RHPS.

Kind regards, Michele Davies
