Welcome to Week 9! Where did that term go?

As we approach the end of this term, I would like to thank you for all your continued support as we work together to support the wonderful children in our school.

We have had an extremely successful term with our students focused on learning and doing their absolute best every single day.

This week we welcome Mr David Capper to our room. I am confident that the students are in very good hands for the next four school weeks as I take some long service leave.

We have been very lucky to have Mrs Linda D’Agostino working with us in the Grade 3 /4 room this term. Linda is a wonderful support to me but also to the children. The work she is doing with some of our children in Maths and Literacy has been outstanding. We all look forward to working with her again next term.

This week we conclude our Science unit on Force and Motion. We have enjoyed conducting experiments learning about forces at work. Our major assessment task was to design and build a balloon powered car – we have some very interesting designs!

Part of this unit includes computer coding. The children have been working on a program called ‘Scratch’ where they can code a computer game. Their knowledge in this area continues to astound me – they have moved along in their understanding of computer programming much faster than their teacher!

In our RE Unit, Celebrating the Spirit, we are creating a movie that shows kindness in action in our school. The children are busy working in groups, planning and scripting their movie. Stay tuned for release dates in Term 3!

We are working hard during our Literacy time. This term we have had a major focus on writing interesting sentences. We have seen some great improvements. Our handwriting is also improving – both with an Apple pen and old-fashioned grey lead!

This term our major Writing piece is an explanation about how our balloon powered cars work. We are using our knowledge about force to assist us with our explanations.

I hope you all have a restful holiday. I look forward to being back with the children in Week 4 of Term Three.

Happy holidays!
