How to help your child succeed at school

Tips for keeping your child's mind active during the school holidays

After a busy term, your child deserves a well-earned rest to re-energise. While we don't expect students to be doing homework, there are some things that you can do to ensure that learning is still taking place.

Reading

Regular readers are more likely to succeed at school, have improved concentration, wider vocabularies and a greater understanding of the world around them. It is important that reading takes place every day. To encourage your child to read, visit the local library or book shop and introduce them to different authors and genres. Ask questions about books they are reading to help develop their comprehension skills.

Writing

Diaries and blogs allow children to be creative and write about topics they are interested in. Many enjoy sending and receiving mail, so writing postcards and letters to friends and family enable children to write for a purpose.

Maths

Maths is everywhere and children can learn Maths without even realising. Activities such as cooking, planting, shopping, packing, watching the weather report and playing board games can prove invaluable.

Enjoy the holidays!
