This year, we are participating in the Victorian Premier’s Reading Challenge. Each child received a username and password that they can use to log on and record books. This is a fun way to encourage children to read. Students can access the website via this link.

Please contact Christine Thredgold if you have any questions.

This year we are excited to host a Lamont Book Fair. A portion of all sales goes towards purchasing new books for our library. Classes will visit the Book Fair, and students are encouraged to make a wish list. Once the wish list comes home, families can purchase books online or directly from the Book Fair.

The Book Fair will be in Bridget Hall and will be open during the Parent Teacher Interviews. It will also be open at the following times.:

Monday 19 June: 3:15-3:45

Tuesday 20 June: 8:10-8:30 and 3:15-3:45

Wednesday, 21 June: 8:10-8:30 and 3:15-3:45

Thursday, 22 June: 8:10-8:30 and 3:15-3:45

Grade 3/4 Zoo Excursion

This fun and educational day out at the zoo helped our grade 3/4 learn how the seven seasons of the Kulin Nation affect the growth and survival of living things. They explored how these changes impact species and their environment.

We had a ball and learnt a lot!

Hello from our Sustainability Leaders

On Tuesday 13th June our Sustainability Leaders attended a Water Catchment Workshop to observe how the Melbourne drainage system works and what we are doing to stop litter from entering our waterways. The students visited a litter trap at Namatjira Reserve in Clayton South and learnt how to test the quality of water and helped clean up the wetlands. The Leaders then spent the afternoon at Mordialloc Pier observing another water trap in the canal. Tony, Zali and Connor shine in their roles as iSea iCare Ambassadors for The Great Southern Reef and will be sharing their learning at an Assembly in Term 3.

On Tuesday the 13th June the Sustainability Leaders , Tony, Connor and Zali went on an excursion to Namatjira Park and Mordialloc Creek. We also went with a lot of other sustainability leaders from other primary schools in our area. Mandy and Chris were the hosts and they were so nice and enthusiastic.

First we went to Namatjira Park in Clayton South. The first activity we did was go to one of the ponds and watch the litter traps and how it works. We saw a digger pull out the large nets which capture rubbish that enters our drains. There was even a number plate from a car in the litter collection! After that we were split into groups. Our school was in group 2. The first activity we did was testing the quality of the water from the pond. The water quality in the pond was classified as good which means that the animals can live happily.

After the park we all went to Mordialloc Creek to see some floating litter traps. We had to walk a bit underneath the bridge but it was a nice time and worth it. When we got there Mandy told us about how the litter traps are designed to float up and down the stream. We also learnt that the water quality in our beaches in Kingston have been poor since February which really shocked us. This is an important reminder to our school community to please not litter as it is impacting our beaches and animals.
