Busking for Change

Monty PS is Busking for Change and Raising Funds for the Indigenous Literacy Foundation!

The students at Monty Primary are excited to be participating in Busking for Change this year. Busking for Change is the Indigenous Literacy Foundation’s newest fundraising event. The idea is simple- students commit to learning a song in an Aboriginal First Language, they gather support/donations from their family and friends and finally, they perform or “busk” their rendition at a school assembly in September. The funds raised go to the Indigenous Literacy Foundation. This year students will learn and help promote Kriol, the largest First Language spoken only in Australia and the second most spoken language in the Northern Territory.

Why?

After the Grade 3/4 students read an article about the initiative, they were very interested in our school participating, learning a First Language and raising awareness, so we got Ms Ady and the choir on board to make it happen!

How you can get involved

We have registered as a school so all you need to do to support this fundraising opportunity is register your child here and when prompted to join a school, select Montmorency Primary School. Once your child is registered, you can share their fundraising page link with family and friends to raise funds to go directly to the Indigenous Literacy Foundation. If you have any questions or for more information, refer to their handy FAQ page. You can also view a rendition of the song our students will be performing.

Our choir has already started rehearsing and the rest of our classes will be learning the song in class closer to the performance date. We can’t wait to share this special experience with you!
