Welcome back!

It has been fabulous to see so many happy, smiling faces around the school to commence Term 3. When visiting classrooms, it is clear to see that the classes are full of committed, conscientious and curious learners, all striving to do their best. It is a credit to the students and the staff for creating such a positive learning environment at Montmorency Primary School.

The term ahead will be another busy one with many special events occurring. We have the Athletics Sports, Movie Night, Book Week Parade, some class excursions, Interschool Sport, the production and the always popular traditional end of term Footy Day. It will be a great term with lots of excitement.

Working Bee

We will be having our first Working Bee of the year on Saturday, 29 July. Please put this date in your diaries now so that we can get a strong turn out! The Working Bee will commence at 9am and run through until 1pm. If you are able to spare a few hours it would be greatly appreciated. A list of jobs and any equipment required will be sent out next week.

NAPLAN

The NAPLAN reports for grade 3 and 5 students are due to be released shortly. When the school receives these reports, they will be sent home to families. Some information will be provided with the student report to help explain the contents, but please feel free to contact your child's teacher if you have any questions or need clarification about the NAPLAN report.

Parent Teacher Interviews

Please note, Parent Teacher Interviews will be held this term in Week 10 on Thursday 14th, from 12.30-6.30pm. More communication about how to book a time will be sent closer to this date.

2024 Enrolment

We had another successful school tour this week with many kindergarten families taking the opportunity to come and see what MPS can offer their families. Applications for Foundation enrolment, 2024 close on Friday 28th July. If you know of anyone who wishes to enrol for 2024, please encourage them to complete the required forms and drop them into the office. If you require assistance or have any questions, the office staff and Leadership Team members are all able to assist.

Dress up day -  National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Children's Day

Week 4, Friday 4th August is National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Children's Day and the SRC is excited about this being a dress up fundraising day (in red, black, yellow, green, blue and/or white). Fundraising efforts this year will go toward a future installation of an indigenous mural in the school.

Lily’s Library

There has been some exciting library construction over the holidays! We are, however, still a few weeks away from it being completed and open to students as we are waiting on some more items to install, furniture to arrive and arrange, and books need to be audited and re-catalogued. We are aiming to have an official opening in August and will communicate more about this soon.

Building Project

The building project has been going very well over the break and is on schedule. You will see that they have commenced the roof which should be finished in the coming weeks. The roof completion will allow the inside work to commence, and poor weather shouldn't delay the project from this point on. The project manager, architect and builder are all pleased with the project and can't foresee any major delays which leads to a predicted completion date in November. It is going to be a fabulous space.

Staffing Update

Mr Michael Every – Grade 5/6 teacher, has resigned from his teaching role at MPS and has taken up a non-teaching position in the Australian Public Service. His last day will be Friday 28th July, at the end of Week 3. We thank Michael for his contribution to MPS over the past eighteen months and wish him all the very best for his future endeavours.

However, we have been very lucky to have secured Ms Ruby Panozzo to take over as teacher of Grade 5/6A whom many students will know from her time at MPS completing her teaching rounds and doing some CRT teaching. In her time here, it became quickly obvious that Ruby had all the qualities of an exceptional teacher, as she impressed staff, students and parents with her enthusiasm, professionalism and engaging personality with the students. We are very confident that Ruby will make a wonderful addition to the teaching staff and MPS community.

After four years of outstanding service to the school, our office Administration Assistant, Ms Bianca Byrne, has given notice that she will be finishing her time with us (her last day will be Thursday 27th July - Week 3) so that she can spend more time with her young family and pursue new opportunities. The entire school community will miss Bianca’s presence in the office, and contribution to the school, but we wish her every success and joy in her new adventures. We are in the process of recruiting a (full time) Administration Assistant.

Take care, everyone,

The Leadership Team
