English
Reading and Viewing
This term we will continue with our weekly reading focus. In reading groups, the students will use Fountas and Pinnell leveled texts to work on comprehension strategies about, within and beyond the text.
Writing
This term students will focus on writing to entertain through Historical Narratives and revisiting Persuasive text. For each text type we will look at the different structures and language features specific to the text type. The students have an opportunity to plan, draft, edit and publish their work. We will continue with our weekly spelling focus and different areas of grammar including simple and compound sentences, nouns, adjectives, nouns acting as adjectives and adverbs.
Speaking and Listening
The students will be given opportunities to listen and contribute to conversations and discussions, to share information and ideas. In collaborative groups students will also plan and deliver short presentations on given topics. Students will be required to be active listeners and respectful speakers when working in small groups.
Mathematics
Number and Algebra
This term we will revisit multiplication and division. We will develop efficient mental and written strategies and use appropriate digital technologies for multiplication and division where there is a remainder. We will also work with the processes in money and financial matters calculating transactions involving money. We will revise and extend our understanding of fractions and decimals.
Measurement and Geometry
Location: The students will look at the different compass directions and label different parts of the room noting direction. They will work with coordinates to write directions for different paths and identify landmarks by following coordinates
Statistics and Probability: In this unit students investigate data representation through various forms. This will include graphs such as line, bar, pictographs and simple pie graphs. The students will investigate the features of these graphs and create graphs from their own reliable collection of data. They will read data sets and interpret and provide information that these entail.
Inquiry- What is the Story?
This unit will focus on developing an understanding and appreciation of Australia’s history and heritage through story. Students will explore the different ways stories are told such as oral storytelling, story through dance, song, drama, art, poetry and the written word. They will develop an understanding that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture is the oldest living culture in the world. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples pass on their stories through song, dance, painting and oral storytelling. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander stories enable all Australians to find out about the heritage of their country. They will learn about the impact the First Settlers had on the Indigenous way of life.
Religion
During Term 3, the Year 3/4 students will explore Scripture and Jesus through the parables and the message that they contain in our world today.
Towards the end of the term we will start preparations for the Sacrament of Reconciliation.
Wellbeing
The Wellbeing focus for this term is ‘Help Seeking’. This unit will focus on personal strategies for children to develop to cope in situations where they might feel anxious.
Students will identify strategies and sources for help when experiencing a range of problems. Students will differentiate between the different levels of problem. Students will explore the notion of trust and how they know they trust someone.
