Holiday Reading

As we reach the mid-point of the academic year, we wanted to provide you with an update on literacy-related activities, ideas and resources to support your child's reading and language development over the holiday break.

1.Encourage holiday reading:

It is valuable to continue to promote reading habits during the break from school. Encourage your child to choose books that interest them and set aside dedicated reading time each day. Consider visiting your local library or bookstore together to discover new titles. Remember, reading can be an adventure and a great way to explore new worlds!

2. Digital Resources:

In today's digital age, there are numerous online resources to support literacy. Explore websites that offer interactive reading activities, educational games, and e-books. Some popular platforms include Epic!, Raz-Kids, Reading Eggs and Reading Rockets. These tools can make reading enjoyable and engaging for your child while providing valuable educational content.

3. Family Reading Time:

Make reading a family affair by setting aside dedicated family reading time. Choose a book that everyone can enjoy and take turns reading aloud. This not only promotes literacy but also fosters quality family time and creates lasting memories.  Audio books on longer car trips can also be a way to enjoy a book together.

Remember, your support and involvement play a crucial role in nurturing your child's literacy skills. By making reading enjoyable and accessible, you can help them become lifelong learners and avid readers.

We wish you and your children a fantastic winter holiday filled with exciting literary adventures!

Happy reading!

Join the MS Readathon and Embark on a Reading Adventure!

The MS Readathon is a wonderful initiative that promotes the joy of reading while raising funds for a great cause. Our very own Grade 3 student, Aveline, has introduced this remarkable program to our school and has been actively participating for the past five years. Now, it's time for those that are interested to join Aveline and make a difference together!

The MS Readathon, organized by the Multiple Sclerosis Society of Australia, is an annual event that encourages students to immerse themselves in the enchanting world of books. It serves as a fantastic opportunity for children to develop a love for reading, expand their literary horizons, and make a positive impact on the lives of others. Not only will our students embark on a captivating reading adventure, but they will also raise funds to support vital research and programs for individuals living with multiple sclerosis.

Aveline has been a shining example of dedication and enthusiasm throughout her participation in the MS Readathon. She has consistently shown her love for reading and her commitment to making a difference in the lives of those affected by multiple sclerosis.

By signing up for the MS Readathon, you would receive a reading log and gain access to an extensive collection of books, ensuring that you have an endless supply of literary treasures to explore. Students can set personal reading goals, track their progress, and earn exciting rewards along the way. Additionally, this event provides a platform for students to engage in meaningful discussions about their favorite books, exchange recommendations with peers, and develop their communication skills.

The MS Readathon offers a sense of purpose and instills the values of empathy, compassion, and community service in our students. By participating, they will not only be contributing to a worthy cause but also enhancing their own reading abilities and nurturing a lifelong love for books. It's a win-win situation!

Join Aveline and countless other passionate readers as we embark on an unforgettable reading journey that will change lives.

A message from Aveline:

Last night I received a letter about MS Readathon which is a cause that helps people with MS also known as Multiple Sclerosis. MS is a disease that stops the messages from your brain to your body. Currently there is no cure so all the money raised goes towards  research to find a cure. I have  been participating in the MS Readathon for over 4 years and last year 1.5 million dollars were raised and I hope you join the fight against MS.
