Back to normal?

As students start to return to face to face learning, we can often feel the need to rush to get back to ‘normal’. But what is normal? And do we need to go back to exactly the way that things were before the world changed with COVID-19? With the craziness of life, we want to encourage our community to take the time to pause and reflect on what has happened over the last few months. We have been through a shared human moment in history which has changed the way that we do things and see things. Many of us have missed the opportunities for connecting with others, whether it is family and friends, through sporting teams and clubs or just being able to go out where we want, when we want. We have had to adapt and create new ways of connecting with each other. Being in lock down has made us appreciate some of the things that we may have forgotten. Many of you may have seen the below clip, but if you haven’t, I suggest that you give it a go.

Many students and families have found new skills and ways of connecting during this time through cooking, playing board games, doing jigsaw puzzles and watching series after series on Netflix. As restrictions begin to ease, I encourage you to take a moment and think about what is it that you want to keep from your experience during remote learning? What have you come to appreciate more and be grateful for? The resilience and dedication of our staff and students during this time has been incredible and really highlights that when difficult circumstances come our way, we can work through anything together. We are so looking forward to seeing our whole school community return in a weeks’ time and although it won’t necessarily be ‘back to normal’ it we will back to our ‘new normal’ where we can reflect on what we have been through and use what we have learned to grow even further with our learning, our relationships and within ourselves.

I will leave you with some images that capture for me many of the things mentioned above. Through these strange times, the College Production has continued to rehearse online, finding new ways to connect with each other, to share in the experience of creating theatre, to laugh, to catch up and at the end of the day, have some fun!
