Visual Arts

As promised, this article is dedicated to the creative and industrious students whose work and efforts over the term while learning from home must be acknowledged.

Year 7 and Year 11

Both my Year 7 and Year 11 students were asked to respond in different ways to their immediate environment. The criteria differed. Can you guess which work belongs to which Year level?

Year 8

The Year 8 students were asked to create work inspired by Banksy, transforming a photo to a black/white graphic image looking at positive and negative space. They were required to visually capture a well-known identity who uses their celebrity for good and identify their cause. These street art inspired pieces are the result of a multi layered process.

VCD

VCD students used the Adobe suite of products (Illustrator in this case) to produce text based posters. We were very fortunate to have our IT department apply early enough to take advantage of an extended lease offer for at home use, which was offered to schools to ease the transition to online learning for COVID-19. Because of this, our students had full access to programs they would likely not have had otherwise. The result was amazing work continued to be produced.

Primary

Last but not least, here are some of the Primary students' works; a real joy to behold and so incredibly endearing - not only because of their accurate response to a task directive and their visual appeal (some are very cute) but also for the effort and care students showed for their art. As a Primary parent myself, trying to work from home and attend to my child’s educational needs, I am fully aware of the strain that moving to online learning may have been placed on households, and the variety and scope of tasks per day. The support our subject experienced and the continued development and value of creative thought/practice in the children was appreciated.

Creativity is more than drawing and painting. It involves responding, imagination and problem solving, forcing the brain muscle to think. Inventors create and creativity is learnt. Our world has evolved because of and continues to rely on creative thinkers. Imagine the possibilities if both sides of the brain were used equally. The biological ratio alone warrants some thought on the matter. I would like to thank parents for their support, whether it be helping to scavenge materials, managing time, discussing or assisting. It meant a lot to us and the children.

Year 12 Studio Art Zoom

To end and just for fun, here is a little snapshot of my last Year 12 Studio Art Zoom. We celebrated with a tea party and ‘dress-up’.

We're Glad to be Back!

Here are some beautiful, joyful smiles from two Prep students.
