Information Resource Centre News

In the virtual environment the IRC has continued to deliver all the services and run all the programs that we had originally planned. Some of the activities that have taken place successfully are:

Author Visits

To date three authors visited the school in the virtual environment and delivered interesting and engaging lectures to students in various year levels. Year 10s were addressed by Kirsty Murray on 12 May, Will Kostakis addressed the Year 9 students on 13 May and finally Phillip Gwynne spoke to the Year 11 students on 19 May. Each writer concentrated on his or her own experiences and successes and gave valuable tips and advice to the students on creativity and the writing process.

Literature Circle meeting

Our second virtual Literature Circle meeting took place on 19 May. Altogether a total of 26 students and staff attended the meeting. From the discussion that took place it is obvious that a wide range of novels are being read and enjoyed by all. Unfortunately due to a technical glitch on Teams our community members were unable to participate but we hope to enable them to participate at the next meeting.

Harry Potter Week Celebrations

Last week the IRC celebrated Harry Potter Week with a range of activities including a virtual photo gallery, daily quizzes on Harry Potter books, creative writing competition with a fantasy theme and Harry Potter dress up competition. The celebrations created a lot of buzz and excitement among the students who participated enthusiastically.

Wide Reading Program

Wide reading program particularly in Years 9 and 10 is continuing at the school. Students read for 10 minutes at the start of each English class and the Year 9s complete reviews of books they read. The IRC has made provisions for them to access e-books from a range of providers.
