Term Two Recreation

Term Two’s recreation activities included fishing; bike riding; swimming at Little Beach, Middleton Beach and Mistaken Island; a three-on-three basketball competition; and climbing and obstacle course fun at Albany Indoor Adventures.

The final activity for the term was an Amazing Race that saw each boarding house compete against each other in nine stations of physical and mental challenges, including golf-chipping, half court and behind the backboard basketball shots, naughts and crosses, and riddles.

Recently I sought feedback about preferences for recreational activities and all boarders were asked to complete a survey which would guide future planning. 38 Middle School boarders and 16 Senior School boarders submitted preferences in this survey.  The most popular suggestions were fishing, amazing race, table tennis and mixed football.  A number of other ideas were suggested including beach activities and laser tag. A schedule of events will be finalised and published at the start of Term Three.

The students enjoyed getting outdoors and working together to complete the challenges in their respective Houses. Congratulations to Anchorage House who were the overall winners on the day, and well done to everyone who participated enthusiastically in the event. Thanks, also, to the staff who helped organise the race and staffed each of the stations.

Thanks also go to Mr Nathan Symonds, Director of Sport, for running sessions in the gym for the boarders every Monday and Wednesday after school before the regular season of club sport resumed.

The Cross Country was held this week on a cold and windy day with the rain holding off for most of the Senior and Middle School year group events.  Boarding students were outstanding this year with boarders taking out four of the six championships in Middle School.  Congratulations goes to :
