VMG DANCE

This Semester’s VMG Drama class have completed a wonderful season of the stage adaptation of Roald Dahl’s The Twits, with great reviews! The cast pulled together after months of rehearsals and performed with an abundance of infectious energy. The characters certainly were colourful! Mr and Mrs Twit were suitably rude and revolting, the family of Muggle-Wumps were the brave and hairy heroes and the Roly-Poly bird was beautifully bedazzling!

The local Primary schools who came to enjoy the show adored the characters and participated with great enthusiasm when prompted. Their contribution to our performance was so lovely to witness and the cast were delighted to have such a generous audience. The Grade Preps, Ones and Twos called out to the characters to help them along their journey, chanted rhymes and repeated actions, including taking off their shoes to convince the Twits they were upside down! This scene, with its spectacular caravan ‘flip’, could not have been achieved without the help of an incredibly talented mum Gillian O’Brien and our awesome Grounds and Maintenance guru Pete Cantlin, who developed our gorgeous set pieces. We also thank Kane Wilson (Year 11) and Ben Scott (Year 12) for their enormous contribution of time, wisdom and leadership with all things technical.

The mayhem and madness was met with much laughter. Wanganui congratulates these fine Drama students for all their efforts in creating a very special show which will be remembered by their young audience for years to come. Congratulations VMG Drama on a great semester’s work. We look forward to your next spectacular showcase!

“Seeing the children’s excitement with the lead up to the show not knowing if their favourite part would be included in the production was priceless.

All the children thoroughly enjoyed the show and the Roly Poly bird was a favourite amongst the children. They loved her energy, brightness and the ways she engaged with the audience. They also felt very sorry for the monkeys and wished the Twits never put them in a cage but were very glad they got to go home.

Well done to yourself and the children for putting on such an enjoyable show and please pass on our congratulations to the children who performed...they all did a magnificent job!”
