Shepparton Education Plan

Throughout the year, much time has been invested into the development of a Shepparton Education Plan for the state schools across Greater Shepparton. Our School Council members were provided with an update last week, with a summary of findings from the second stage of community consultation provided.

There are four transformational projects currently being developed across the state, including projects at Lilydale, Frankston North, Bendigo (a re-visit to the changes done there 15 years ago) and Shepparton.

A Shepparton Education Plan is being developed for the Minister to consider and hopefully viewed favourably in the near future. Thanks to all who have provided input in to getting the Shepparton Education Plan to this point. It was emphasised that planning and input from staff, parents, students and community members will be required in the years ahead to best shape the future of education across our state system. We will have further information early next year, and I will communicate this with you as it becomes available.

Staff Changes 2018

A number of staff will not be returning in 2018. Some of these are long serving staff members at Wanganui Park, most notably Bob Crozier (began at Wanganui Park in 1976), Helen Betson (since 1990) and Joyce Feain (since 2001) who will spend the year pursuing other challenges. Also, leaving us is Jo Burgess (since 2006) who is relocating to be closer with family, Lee Olney (since 2013) who is moving to Melbourne and Tricia Sargant (since 2012) who has secured other ongoing employment in Shepparton. We will also be farewelling Jill Pettigrew, Megan Dixon, Ana Nicolopoulos and Lilly Caia. Phoebe Nicolopoulos will be taking 12 months leave before returning in 2019, and we have Kaitlyn Souter and Lisa Wright taking family leave in 2018. We would like to wish the staff members mentioned above all the best for the future, and we thank them for their outstanding contributions to our school. The trainees appointed in 2017 will also be departing. Billy Cooper (Camps/Sport) will study Early Childhood Education, Mitchell Myrgers (Admin) will study Business, Holly Lott (Literacy and Numeracy) will study Italian and Kaylie Carbis (Media) who has been accepted into the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in New York. Josh Fleming (Student Support) has accepted the offer of continuing this role next year.

Orientation Day

On Tuesday December 12th, we welcomed our Year 7 students for 2018 for their Orientation Day. They were eager to get to know their teachers and new classmates and were all very excited to be settling into our school. We are confident that these students will go on to make their own significant contributions, and we look forward to supporting them in their transition to Wanganui Park Secondary College.

End Of Semester Reports

We have placed Year 11 and Year 10 Semester 2 reports on the Xuno Portal and all of these students have been in to school to confirm their course for next year.

We will SMS parents when the Years 7-9 reports have been posted on Xuno on Tuesday 19th.

Activities Program

From Thursday, 14th December to Tuesday, 19th December, the school runs an activities program for students in Years 7, 8 and 9. The activities program is designed to give students experiences that they may not otherwise have access to. All junior students are expected to attend during this time.

Wanganui On Show

Our annual awards night, Wanganui on Show, will be held at Eastbank on Wednesday December 20th. We would like to extend an invitation to all Wanganui parents and friends to come along and celebrate with us the many successes of our students. Please arrive at 7.15 for a 7.30pm sharp commencement. Students receiving awards on the night will be contacted prior to the event.

We would like to take this opportunity to wish you all a safe holiday and we look forward to another successful year in 2018.
