From the Principal

Term 3, Week 10, Kevin Kennedy

Dear Families,

NAPLAN

NAPLAN results will be sent home this Thursday for our year 3, 5 and 7 students. You will receive your child’s personal NAPLAN report. The report will describe your child’s particular skills in Reading, Writing, Language Conventions (spelling, grammar and punctuation) and Numeracy. The report will also show how your child performed in relation to national minimum standards. These describe the minimum acceptable standards for students across Australia. I am confident that the information you receive as a result of your child’s participation in the NAPLAN tests will be valuable in helping you to assess your child’s progress in literacy and numeracy. If you have any queries about the report please contact the your child’s teacher.

As well as individual results the school receives an overall performance score. This year we achieved our highest score since NAPAN began, significantly higher than last year’s result and a very good score when compared to other schools like West Beach Primary. While there is a lot more to teaching and learning at our school and success comes in many forms, it is worth acknowledging our successes in NAPLAN and to congratulate the staff and students for their performance this year.

End of Year Concert/Year Six and Seven Graduation

The end of year concert will be held atthe northern end of the oval on Wednesday 1st December, with the following evening held in reserve should the weather be unkind and we are forced to cancel. Holding the event on the oval will allow for an increased capacity that the courtyard area of the school does not provide.  As well as helping us to meet our COVID19 requirements it will also create an enjoyable picnic atmosphere.

Once again due to COVID19 we are altering our normal graduation ceremony this year. With the hall being too small to accommodate such a large group of graduating students we are moving the ceremony onto the courts directly outside the main building. In this space we will be able to have more family members in attendance and the year sixes and sevens can graduate together, which will be nice as many of them have spent the year in the same classroom.  Graduation will be held on Wednesday 8th December, the following evening will be a backup date should we experience poor weather. Fingers crossed.

Pool

The pool will be ready to swim in by the end of the holidays. The shade cover over the pool will be constructed later in term 4, however this won’t prevent us from using the pool for swimming lessons prior.

If you have any queries or concerns please don’t hesitate to contact me.

Kind Regards,

Kevin Kennedy
