Humanties & Science

Taught through Investigation Time and explicit tuning in lessons

This term our Inquiry unit is called 'From This to That'.  We will be exploring how things grow and change overtime, what livings things need to survive and how the environment can impact living things. The classrooms will each have specific investigation areas that link into the Humanities and Science concepts we will be teaching based on this unit of learning. These include Life cycles, recycling plant, gardening centre/flower shop, water play/sink/floating, weather/news station and a Fish and Chip shop.

Each classroom will also have other areas set up that specifically target Literacy and Numeracy skills or other special interests amongst the students.

The children will explore content that answers the following questions.

  • How can I use my senses to help me be aware of what is going on in my environment?
  • What do living things need to survive?
  • What features make an environment liveable?
  • How can I look after our environment?
  • What do I do that is different to how things were done when my parents were little?

We are lucky enough to already have an excursion booked that will allow the children to have hands on experiences that relate to this unit of learning. The students will also be conducting experiments throughout the term including growing carrot tops and making their own grass head.
