We are so excited to have the Foundation children back onsite at school in their regular classroom spaces. We are proud of everything that they have been doing this year, both remotely at home, and when at school. They have come a long way in their learning journey since starting school.

INITIALIT

InitiaLit–F is a comprehensive whole-class beginning reading and spelling program for all children in their first year of schooling. It includes an explicit and systematic synthetic phonics program as well as a literature component to enrich oral language, listening comprehension and vocabulary.

InitiaLit–F focuses on two main components:

Phonics, to systematically and explicitly teach the basic alphabetic code in a set sequence. In addition to learning letter-sound correspondences and how these are applied to reading and spelling, children will be introduced to common morphemes and simple grammatical concepts.
Vocabulary, oral language and listening comprehension through quality children’s literature. Detailed lessons, including writing tasks, are provided for each of the storybook titles selected for use with the program.

We are so proud of the students efforts to continue learning the graphs and digraphs at home during remote learning to help them with their reading!

The final sounds and concepts we will learn this term are; 'th', 'oo', 'ng', 'ay', CVCC words, CCVC words and the suffix 's' at the end of a word.
