Healthy connection to holiday fun

'Being healthy helps us to be our best' is the School of Wonder's Term 4 Inquiry investigation topic, and children were eager to share holiday experiences highlighting ways to be healthy.

Children clown around during Drama lesson

During Term 4, School of Wonder children will be exploring The Arts in Drama. Thursday's lesson saw children bring out their inner clowns. Children looked at facial expressions to show an emotion. Children also had the opportunity to share their clown talent, which saw many smiling and happy faces shared.

Italian gelato activities a real treat

This week children began Term 4 with a distance learning lesson focusing on gelato. Activities involved children saying which gusti - flavours they do and don't like in Italian, using thumbs up and down and the words Sì mi piace - Yes I like it and No, non mi piace - No, I don't like it. They also learnt how to ask for specific flavours using the phrase Vorrei un gelato - I'd like a gelato.

Their final tasks involved completing one of two games, 'Grandissimo Gelato' or 'Gelato Lego Challenge'. The 'Grandissimo Gelato' game involved them creating a giant paper cono di gelato - ice-cream cone, with a scoop of each of the new gusti - flavours they'd learnt. They then had to roll a dice and count in Italian along the cone. Whichever flavour they landed on they had to say in Italian whether they liked the flavour or not.

The 'Gelato Lego Challenge' involved children writing on small pieces of paper the different gusti - flavours they'd learnt. Each flavour was linked to a coloured brick. Then they made two cones or cups out of Lego. Each person had to take it in turns to randomly choose a flavour and then roll the dice to see how many scoops (coloured bricks) they needed to stack on top of their cone. The winner was the person who had the tallest gelato (brick tower) without it falling down!

Children completed all the tasks very well and it's great to continue to see their enthusiasm for language learning even in these challenging circumstances. As always, grazie - thank you for your support with their language learning at home.

Learning to play golf is tee-rrific fun!

The first part of Term 4 sees the School of Wonder children looking at the sport of golf. Children will be participating in modified golf games. Tuesday's lesson involved the children learning about the grip on a golf club - definitely some standout golfers at St Anne’s College. Some children adapted items around their house to make golf clubs. Seamus and Aidan also showed me how to use their golf club to correctly face the ball.
