Tutoring Program

Frankston High School has been involved in a Tutoring Program specifically geared to support students who have had their learning impacted over the last two years by the pandemic and the ensuing lockdowns and disruptions.

It has focused on Literacy and Numeracy and targeted students from Years 7 to 10.

An interesting aspect of the program is that it has not been aimed solely at students who are experiencing difficulties with their learning, but has also been geared at extending stronger students and those from all levels of ability.

At the end of the first semester students were surveyed to see if they thought that the program had been of benefit to them. Below is a small selection of some responses:

· My confidence with English has gone up a lot
· It’s improved my organisation and keeping on top of work
· The teacher explains things until you really understand it
· I liked learning in a small group
· It helped me understand my projects better
· I liked working with a team
· I am a lot more confident with my work
· We learnt how to work as a group
· I have enjoyed the extra support
· I learnt a lot of new ways to do things
· It has been extremely helpful and of significant help.

Throughout the lockdowns our tutors have continued to operate remotely in small, intensive sessions with selected students and to assist teachers by team teaching in their classes.  Students will be surveyed again at the conclusion of the program to establish what has worked well and what could be improved.

Continuation of the Tutor Program in 2022 is dependent on funding from the State Government.
