House Athletics - Friday 20 April

ROLL CALL:   8.45am at Dolamore  Reserve

DISMISSAL:   2.45pm from Dolamore  Reserve

As an important and exciting part of the House program, all Year 7-12 students will be participating in our Annual Athletics Carnival on Friday 20 April.  This is a compulsory school event. Students need to wear sporting clothing in their house colours, or alternatively they may wear their Physical Education uniform as there will be House points awarded in every event as well as House Chant, Dance off and novelty games.

All students are required to make their own way to Dolamore Oval ready for roll call at 8.45am. Students are reminded to bring sunscreen, hat, sunglasses, wet weather gear (if necessary), a water bottle and some lunch and/or money as there will be a BBQ available on the day with sausages, drinks and icy poles.  Students are not allowed to leave Dolamore oval until the end of the day.

MGSC has a growing tradition of student participation in carnivals and we continue to encourage all year levels to actively participate in as many events as possible. We look forward to seeing all the students and as many parents as possible cheering on their daughter/s. If you have any queries please contact Ms Ilana Parker.

Round Robin sport days

In recent weeks there have been Round Robin Sports Days for Intermediates, Year 8 and Year 7 featuring  softball, volleyball, ulitmate frisbee and tennis competitions.

The tennis was at Melbourne Park this year which was a bit of a treat for the girls who caught the train into Richmond station with their teacher. Whilst looking at all the old buildings on their journey through the south eastern suburbs observing Melbourne’s emerging poetry painted on the old Melbourne brick, they were quietly reflecting on their serves and volleys.

In Year 7 volleyball  we had around 70 girls trial and as a result we were able to enter three teams each consisting of 10 girls. The ‘A’ team won the tournament with Glen Eira College close on their heels. They will now compete at the Southern Zone finals at the Dandenong Stadium in term 2.

The great memories have been caught on camera and are on the sport domain website (www.mgscsports.weebly.com) under the extra-curricular tab.

Please take the time to have a look at these and also the swimming carnival photos. We look forward to another big term of sport here at school and invite all girls to give it a go to enjoy the teamwork and mateship that sport has to offer.

Year 7 Ultimate Frisbee

The Year 7 Ultimate Frisbee team had an amazing day at Elwood Oval on Thursday 22 March. They played against the Victorian School of the Deaf and Elwood Secondary, but sadly didn’t have enough time to take on the competitive Beaumaris Secondary College. Our team won two games and lost one. It was a great opportunity to play some fun sport and get active.  Thank you to the Year 9 coaches Poppy Livings and Amy Sin for helping umpire, coach and support the team.
