Principal's Message

Dear Parents & Families

It has been a short term but a very busy one.

Most recently Ms Ekaterina Xanthopoulos worked with a dedicated team of staff to organise the activities to celebrate Cultural Diversity Week.  These ranged from dancing, to food stalls and competitions.  Many students joined in the activities.

Tammy, our gardener, has continued to wave her magic wand in the gardens and there are new additions to the garden beds.  The library is now being frequented by students on a regular basis and they are enjoying the areas for contemplation and study.  Painting continues to happen throughout the school and much more is scheduled over the holiday break.

You will have recently received a newsfeed to let you know that we will be opening up the email module of Compass to families by the start of term 2.  I hope that this will enable you to communicate more directly with your daughter’s teachers in the future.

We are currently preparing for the Open Night which is in week 2 of next term - Tuesday 24 April.  This is our opportunity to show the wider community the diverse nature of educational and co-curricular offerings that the College has.  Did you know that in 2018 approximately 50% of our Year 7 intake came from outside of the local area? Therefore, there is an opportunity for families that do not have a government girls’ school close by to attend our fine college.

Our curriculum offerings are growing every day with an increasing number of students taking up Environmental Studies in the Senior Years.  Our numbers in the senior school are the largest yet which means that we can also offer a diverse range of subjects at VCE which is enviable.  Our focus on Science, Technology, Arts, Engineering and Maths also sees us offering a range of classes such as Specialist Maths and Physics. At MGSC we are leading the way for girls in these areas.

I wish you all a relaxing break and hope you enjoy spending family time together.  I will be visiting one of my daughters overseas and so look forward to this as well.  I will be on leave until 7 May, and in my absence Bronwyn Moline will be Acting Principal.

Travel well, be safe and take care,

Regards

Linda Brown

Farewell Inny

The College wishes to thank Inny Smit for her dedicated service to MGSC since July 1994.  Inny has ensured that the school has been able to manage its resources over the years to enable the upgrades to many of our facilities.  Inny will retire in October of this year after taking her Long Service Leave.
