South Australia’s Visual Art scene is in the world spotlight again as we join to celebrate Indigenous and Torres Strait Islander Artists in a festival called Tarnanthi.
Tarnanthi (Kaurna: tar-nan-dee) is a platform for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander artists from across the country to share important stories.
“It illuminates the diversity and depth of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander art by presenting an annual exhibition, art fair, artist talks, performances, and events. Tarnanthi is led by Artistic Director Nici Cumpston, AGSA’s Curator of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Art.” AGSA, 2019
The launch was held on 17 October at the Art Gallery of South Australia, followed by the art fair at Tandanya and other festivities. Our Primary School students will be engaging in a workshop with an Indigenous Artist at school on Monday Week 3 to support our theme of Term 4: Art in Culture and share in the state-wide festivities.
Maureen Zandona and I will be attending the Teacher Connect at the Art Gallery and we hope to share our learning with you all.
Check out the AGSA website for how you can get involved in the festivities.
I am sure you will all agree that Term 4 sneaks up faster every year. At the end of the week, we say goodbye to our Year 12 Visual Art students and close the doors to our bustling Senior Art Studio. I would like to extend my appreciation to Mr Stanborough for providing our senior students with guidance and support over the course of the year and in years past. The boys have been working hard on their artworks and we look forward to presenting them at our exhibition of excellence in Week 6. As the boys leave it is always a positive feeling to see how far our students have grown in our subject area. This year’s exhibition invitation showcases a character that has been developed by one of our students Brian. His character is one of Brian’s many digital artworks that he has created this year. Digital Art is ‘new’ to Blackfriars in 2019 and we implementing our WACOM tablets in many of our projects in Design and Art and it has been exciting to see where students are taking the technology.
End of Year Exhibition, Thursday 21 November, 5:30 – 7 pm @ the Gym Foyer
Please join us as a community to celebrate student excellence in Visual Art and Design Technology from R – 12, and reflect on the experiences and opportunities that the specialist Visual Art Teachers have provided for the students of Blackfriars.
