Dear Blackfriars Community

Welcome to Term 4; a term of completing the year positively and making full use of every opportunity for learning and contributing to the Blackfriars School community.

Graduating Class of 2019

This is a vitally important time of transition for our Year 12 students as they prepare for their final exams and farewell a very significant chapter of their lives, their education at Blackfriars Priory School. Blackfriars has been a second home to our students, having spent countless hours with each other in Home Groups and classes, at recess and lunchtime, in many co‑curricular activities where they have represented Blackfriars with great pride and passion. Many of our Year 12 students are filled with mixed emotions; there is the natural excitement of moving further into adulthood and starting a new phase of their lives, yet at the same time, anxiety about their future pathway mixed with the sadness of saying goodbye to their school days, friends and teachers. Losing forever that everyday connection with a significant part of their lives.

I ask parents to continue to be supportive of our Year 12's and the School community as our boys negotiate these powerful emotions. Opening up the conversation at home and listening to your son as he speaks about his emotions is most important during this time of transition and during the examination period. It is very important for our Graduating Class to finish well and to leave a positive legacy of their unique contribution to Blackfriars.

The first major ceremonies and rituals to mark the end of school life for our Year 12’s occurred today including the Year 12 Breakfast, the Final School Assembly and Year 12 Mass. This evening we celebrate the achievements of the Graduating Class at the formal Academic Assembly conducted at Bonython Hall, University of Adelaide in the presence of academic staff, parents, invited guests and members of the Board. The ceremony is a wonderful culmination of the school year, a powerful symbolic marker of transition into adulthood and a very memorable and important occasion for students, parents and the School.

Prayer for our Year 12 Students

Lord, we keep our Year 12 students in our thoughts and prayers as they navigate the waves and challenges of their final school days.  May you bless them with the love and support of families and friends as a safety net for their well-being; ensuring help and comfort is never far away.

We pray that the truth that they have explored and the knowledge they have mastered during their journey at Blackfriars will hold them steadfast in exams and final submissions and that your light and guidance will grace them with peace and success.

We pray together as the Community of Blackfriars, Amen.

SunSmart Policy

A reminder to parents to ensure that your son(s) have the correct school uniform, including the school broad-brimmed hat. As the temperature soars during the coming weeks it is important for boys to protect their exposed skin from high levels of ultra-violet light when in the sun by wearing their hat. Please also ensure that your son’s name is on the hat and other uniform items, including the school bag.
