Interview with a Volunteer

Irena Peoples

Why do you volunteer at BNPS?

I love feeling useful, and there are lots of people at BNPS that appreciate my help!

What year level are your children in?

Jack is in Prep, and though neither of us can believe it, pretty soon he'll be in Grade 1 - the year has flown by so quickly.

What roles have you volunteered for during your time at BNPS?

I have helped out in the Canteen, at the Uniform Shop and with Prep Literacy Group.

What is your background/current role (outside of BNPS!)?

Until two years ago, I was an Engineer at Holden Head Office in Port Melbourne.  Since then, I joined the Board of Directors of the Beaumaris Bendigo Bank, and I'm now the Company Secretary.  Being on the Board involves attending local events and creating relationships, as well as deciding how best to distribute the branch's profits back to the Beaumaris and Black Rock community.

What do you do during your spare time?

I like to do jigsaw puzzles, but often I won't make any progress for weeks.  This means half our dining table is given over to some puzzle or another for what seems like the whole year!

What’s the best thing about BNPS?

Every teacher and every staff member I've ever met at BNPS has been so friendly - it's a pleasure to spend time with such wonderful people.
