Music

My name is Rachel Sifris and this is my fourth year as the Director of Music at South Oakleigh College.  I have really enjoyed building this program over the years together with our highly talented Music Instrumental Team.

When a student of South Oakleigh College enrols to learn an instrument at our school, our instrumental teachers give them weekly lessons in a relaxed, fun and highly professional working environment.

Last year, over 30% of the entire school was involved in our annual Spring Soiree held in September.  Our department’s main excursions and events include Music Camp, Spring Soiree and Instrumental Soirees. One of the more exciting projects we are currently working on is our endeavour to have a number of our Music students participate in a Music Tour in 2021, travelling to the United States with a  visit to Disney Land on the way home.

We have many ensembles, including large ensembles such as Concert Band, Junior Choir and Senior Choir, which perform within the school as well as externally and compete in our local eisteddfods.  We have many other smaller ensembles such as String ensemble, Percussion ensemble and our Contemporary Band.  We offer VCE Music Performance, AMEB Exams, friendly solo/duo/ensemble competitions against other local schools and we are always looking for new and exciting opportunities for our students to showcase their talents.

Among our staff we have many teachers who are regular professional performers with excellent contacts who can assist greatly in extending your child’s career should they wish to pursue music after they have finished their secondary education.
