Director of Curriculum and Pedagogy

My name is Sara Downs and you have probably seen my face before.  I have taught English at South Oakleigh College since 2012.  This year I will be teaching theatre studies, English and literacy.

In my new role as Director of Curriculum and Pedagogy, I will be overseeing Learning and Teaching at the College.  I believe that we are all learners.  My passion is that all students develop a healthy curiosity and ability to think critically about the world around us.  This can only be done through careful planning and design of learning experiences tailored to interests, learning level and skill sets.  I will work with the new Learning Specialists and our Key Learning Area Leaders to design training for our teachers that means that students will have the best access to their education every single day.  We will work closely as a staff, share our knowledge and skills and grow and learn alongside our students and community.

This year, teachers will be involved in an Inquiry Cycle where they will investigate the learning needs of their students more closely and target their teaching to ensure all students have the best possible opportunity for success in their classes.

I will also work with the college community, including staff and students, and the wider education system to ensure that our students have access to exciting programs and courses here at the College.  To help with this, I will work with our SRC Enrichment team.

Last, I will also be working closely with students and staff in the Accelerated Program towards their learning goals.

I look forward to working with all of you in this new and exciting role.
